Visa requirements

I'll be a first time cruiser, and I have a silly (I believe) question, but I want to be sure:
Does the flag of the ship determine if you need a visa or not? I mean, I will be sailing on a ship under the flag of Malta. Should I comply with the requirements to visit that country to be able to board, regardless the fact that the itinerarium includes Argentina, Uruguay, Falkland Islands and Antartica?

Never actually thought about it or had it come up Visa is attached to you personally and the country you are going to enter. Most cruises out of North America the issue never comes up at all for Canadians anyways.
