We are going on Vision of the Seas for our honeymoon. Just wondering what people have to say about it. There weren't any reviews about it. Just thought I would pop my head in here and ask around. Thanks! It can be about anything...overall feel for the ship, food, entertaingment, cabins... anything!

ALthough it isnt at "bling-blingy" as the Voyager/Freedom Class ships, it was the state of the art back in '98 when I was aboard.

Expect a cozy atmosphere with a smaller ship feel.

I just took a tour of the Vision OTS on Oct 1. She looked fine to me. I'll post the photos I took soon.

My family and I just got back from the Mexican Riviera aboard the Vision. Here are a few observations:

1. The ship itself was nice enough. We haven't been on a cruise vacation for six years or so...we took a break to have a couple of kids. Prior to that, we have been on 10 cruises over the first 8 yrs of our marriage.

2. Service in general was very mediocre. The level of service has dropped since our last cruise. Of course, there were individual staff members that provided excellent service, but overall, pretty disappointing.

3. Great activities for the kids. Ocean Adventure program was pretty well run and the kids had a great time.

4. A word of warning for all cruiser on this or any other ship. Bring your own IMODIUM!! I got sick on our second night of the cruise. I went to see the Dr. and was given imodium but was informed that I would be confined to my stateroom for 48 hrs and my family for 24 hrs. And all Royal Caribbean would offer was a mere $240 credit for our next cruise. Not one staff person aboard the Vision even asked the most basic of questions, like what or where I ate. They had no interest in tracking the source of contamination, only limiting their liability.

Overall, the absolute worst cruise experience we have had. Would probably not take another Royal Caribbean cruise again...too many other options.

I just sent a letter to the President of Royal Caribbean. I will post an update if I get a response...but I'm not holding my breath!

Hi myin and =welcome to Cruise @ddicts. I strongly echo your sentiments about bringing immodium and not even thinking about mentioning minor stomach distress to the ship's staff. We had a similar experience on Carnival Miracle back in August. Susan was quarrentined for 24 hours only and I was not quarrentined at all. The only compensation we were offered was the magnanamous gesture of free pay per view movies for the day. Don't be too hard on Royal Caribbean. The Carnival staff was equally un-concerned about our inconvenience and the Dr. knew, and admitted that she knew Susan's discomfort was due to the side affect of a prescription medication she was taking for a sinus infection but it didn't matter. I also read an article written by a man who had a similar experience on a Norwegian ship so it looks like it happens on all the cruise lines.

I suppose you are right Michael. The cruise industry is not immune from the general decline in service throughout our society. I can't remember the last time I called a customer 'service' line and didn't have to wait 10 - 15 minutes to speak with a human being. What is next, self-service cruises?

However, it just makes good business sense to me for Royal Caribbean or any cruise line to at least appear like they are interested and concerned about events like this.

The analogy I can come up with is the car you just bought comes with a free routine maintainance. You take the car in for the first oil change and in the process, the dealer damages the car and it will cost 40% of the cost of the car to repair it. The dealer tells you that they will not fix it and they will not pay you to get it fixed somewhere else. Instead, they will issues you a credit for one-half the cost of repairs which you can apply to the purchase of your next car from them. The dealer also tells you that they need to inspect the vehicle to determine if it is safe to drive...afterall, we all must be concerned with public safety, correct? The inspection will take 2 days and you must sit in the waiting area of the dealership during the inspection. But, the dealership will provide you all the coffee and doughnuts you want as a 'goodwill' gesture. Have a nice day!!

Am I wrong?

You're right on. In my job I live by the credo There's no GOOD excuse for BAD customer service. I was going to write a very angry letter to Carnival when I got home. Knowing the cruise lines as well as I do I knew that would do no good at all. Instead I am writing a more detailed report of exactly what happened, how it was handled and what I would suggest to correct the situation. For me it was not THAT it happened but rather the atrocious mannar in which it was handled. If one of my clients were treated like that on a ship I'd be climbing the walls.

Well this is getting a little =offtopic so I'll be anxious to see Cruiser's pics.
