Hello All, I've read that many people use Walkie Talkies to communicate with their kids.-Are these anoying? Do they bother you? Are they worth it for parents who want to keep in contact with their children?

We use FRS radios (walkie-talkies) all the time when we are out hunting and on trips. Have heard quite a few people say they use them on cruises, but we aren't sure if we're going to pack ours or leave them home!

Yes, they can be annoying if not used with some common sense and courtesey. Don't use them in the dining room, show lounges, etc. Believe it or not, it happens.

Yes, we did use them on both of our cruises. We mostly used them during the day while my son was in the game room and we were at the poolside, or if he was running to get pizza and such. I guess we used them like our cell phones but we did not use them in the dining areas. We also used them in port as daughter and I stayed on the ship and hubby and son went on a schooner! He used the walkie talkie as he was cruising by our ship, it was neat! If we were in a more public area we would keep ours in our pockets to muffle the sound a bit.

we found it helpful to keep up with children, however, plan an alternate channel to keep in touch, but don't announce the channel. sometimes children will play with them thinking they are funny, but interfere with your conversation. if you announce the next channel, they just switch too.
