I'd love to take 2 or 3 bottles of my favorite wine on board. Maybe some bottled water and diet drinks. Will these things be allowed or confiscated before boarding? Thanks!
You won't be bothered if you just take a couple of bottles of wine, water, or a 12 pack of soda. But If you try to bring cases of anything on board, you may be hassled. If you bring a bottle of your own wine to dinner, be prepared to pay a corkage fee of about $10.
Usually alcholic bevs not allowed to be carried. (hide it in your suitcase well protected). Don't go crazy with lot's of stuff. I usually take a fifth of good Scotch and a bottle of wine for my wife. I wrap it in bubble wrap and tuck it snuggly in my sneakers in the middle of my suitcase. Just be careful over indulging on a ship at sea is not a very good idea. We have all heard the stories about those who have turned up missing and those stories usually involved alchohol. Also consider that there are times when we over indulge and .....well....act badly and embarass ourselves (lord knows I have been there a couple of times) The thing is you are on a ship and those same people are going to see you daily for the duration of the cruise and you didn't pay all that money to avoid them by hiding in your cabin. Drinks are not horribly expensive in the bars and lounges (about the same as you would find in any nightclub or bar on shore).
We've probably taken 10 bottles of wine with us to dinner over our 3 cruises and we've never been charged a corkage fee. They certainly have the right to do that, but I feel that if you develop a good rapport with your wait staff they probably won't charge you.
I have taken alcohol on each of our cruises. When you could fly with liquid I put vodka in water bottles etc. Now I use bubble wrap and put it in large plastic bags to be on the safe side. When we had a suite they provided wine glasses so I would open my bottle of wine in the cabin and pour myself a glass to bring with me to dinner. I still buy the drinks of the day etc but the wine cost is just too outrageous for me!
