What can I do about a hot oil blister on my lip?

On Saturday I was making Chicken and Dumplings for dinner, and some hot oil splattered as I was browning the chicken and hit my lip. I kept accidentally wiping off the blister as I would shower, and now it's ugly and red and tender.

What's the best thing to do at this point? Ouch....

It sounds like a burn so might just need to treat it like wise (ice) and let heal? Maybe some Aloe / Ice. Pure Aloe works like magic to stop burn pain. Then ofcourse it will need to heal up over time. It won't be pretty but, it will eventually. Try to keep clean so it doesn't get infected (if its a real bad burn).

The problem is it is on my lip, and as I talk, or eat, or move my lips, it breaks open. (ok, bring it on F&F&B!)

Gross and Yuck.. - Sorry Globug.. I know it must hurt as I got burnt on the face with hot oil as a kid. Avon has a good medicated lip balm and there are others out there as well. Just keep it moist.

I didn't even know there was such a thing as a medicated lip balm. I'll look for one tomorrow. Thanks.

Pop open a Vitamin E capsule before you go to bed.. goop it on good, it will heal twice as fast, and knit the skin 50% faster too.I swear by it on burns everytime!!.. and during the day.. add it once or twice and after every meal..hugsJoanne

Ouch ouch and ouch. What's F F & B? I would have said BJ?conniecat syndrome. I vote for the vitamin E and the medicated lip balm. Or, about 4 or 5 frozen thingy's and you won't care any more!

Be careful with the medicated lip balm as it may contain an ingredient that would really hurt on the newly opened "skin" on the lip. I agree with the Vitamin E......I also would put a little TAO on it (triple antibiotic ointment.)

I don't have any additional advise but just wanted to say I hope it heals fast. The vitamin e sounds like a good idea!

yup, the Vit E does sound like a good idea. I believe I have some cold Vit E in the refrigerator just for this very thing. Sometimes you just can't think straight!

FF&B is Frick, Frack and Bruce, because I had said something about how the blister breaks open when I open my mouth... I can imagine what one of them would say...

Not to provide support to FF&B, but my first thought when I saw the title of this post ... "What can I do about a hot oil blister on my lip?"... was, "Stop sucking on dipsticks!"

Then, took the time to read to posting. Agree, medicated (aloe) lip balm to keep it moist, so it isn't as prone to cracking. That, and time... Keep an eye open for infection .... Hope you heal up soon.

Take a Vit. E. capsule and poke a hole in it and place some of the oil on your sore. It will heal in no time and not leave a scar.

I agree with Joanne about the Vitamin E. Also with Lisa, about the medicated lip balm. I tend to get chapped lips in winter and know that most of the medicated lip balms sting. And that's just on chapped lips, Can't help but think it would really hurt on the burn.

If the burn is in a place where you are not likely to ingest whatever you put on it, I also really suggest using Neosporin Plus. It is medicated, AND it has an anesthetic in it to decrease the pain. I've found that it really helps wounds heal.

Always!!! Thanks everyone. It appears that DD took the cold Vit. E when she moved a few weeks ago so I'll pick some up today.
