Appart from the ovious like clothes, suntan lotion ect... What are items first time cruisers are most likely to forget?

I'm talking about things we may need on board or on day trips in ports of call.

What did you forget???

Everyone will tell you all you really need is your passport and your money. But you’d never prove that my my packing list. And that is one long list.

Have you looked at Calgon's lists, or Cruise Diva's packing lists yet. Those are two of the most extensive lists I've encountered. Calgon's being probably the most thorough.

I have a list that I saved in my computer for use, from cruise to cruise. It’s a compilation of ideas from other lists, but I have to say that I haven’t got anything included that isn’t on those two list. And they have lots that aren’t pertinent to me personally, so I don’t have them listed. So give these a look.

For Calgon’s lists scroll way down to the bottom of the page. Be sure to read the “Ultimate packing lists†AND the “pre departure check listâ€Â

http://www.geocities.com/Calgon1/

On Cruise Diva’s page the list is in the menu at the left of the page, under essentials.

Just to make it a little easier: on Calgons list, after you scroll down and click on the "Ultimate Packing LIst", (if you don't wish to read all his really excellent advice) you need to scroll down again, and look for the words "warm climate version" in blue. Click on that to find the actual "list".

The absolute most important thing is the mindset to have a great cruise no matter what!

We always pack way more than we need and don't even bring alot of the things that are on the "lists"

Multi outlet extension cord is a must if you recharge batteries, etc.
We also bring sodas and some snacks (nuts).

I always bring a bottle of liquid hand soap. Wal-Mart has them for less than a dollar and I just throw it away at the end of the trip. I just hate using bar soap to wash my hands with. Also, bring some good shampoo and conditioner. I have oily hair, but after the harsh water in the showers, the salt water, and the sun - my hair was so dry. It took several months for it to get back to normal.

Get a pocket hang on the door shoe rack. It is PERFECT for all your toiletries. Hang it on the back to the front door, which is usually right outside the bathroom door and you have everything at your fingertips. IF you have an inside room, bring a night light. Bring an extra bag or suitcase to pack all the stuff you buy on the trip. If you go with friends, bring a deck or cards or small games to play on the decks or in th library areas. We played yatzee alot. Gotta remember it's pretty windy on the deck too. Bring ziplock bags (gallon size) for wet items to be packed or bathroom items that may leak. Duct tape is a definite necessity. For balcony rooms bring a bungy cord to hold open the door. Be sure to bring imodium, non drowsy motion sickness pills or the bracelets too, Anti-acid pills, bandaids, hot/cold packs, benedryl cream. That's all I can think of right now. Check out the Calgons list, I got alot of this stuff from there. It's got good stuff...

Nailtex made a good piont on the "extra bag" to pack all the stuff you buy. I also include a sholder bag or backpack to carry bottled water and sunscreeen on shore, and in which to put purchases so they can be carried comfortably. It's rough to buy something early in the day on shore, and then have to lug it around all day, while the cheap plastic bag cuts off the circulation in you hands.

I always bring plenty of Bonine (I think it's better and has less side effects than Dramamine) for motion sickness. After suffering seasickness towards the end of my first cruise while the ship was making a speed run throught the Gulf of Mexico, I take one every morning and another in the late afternoon before dinner as a deterrent . This is whether I feel any motion issues or not. I've never had a problem on three subsequent cruises by following this procedure.
