What happened to West Coast short cruises?

I wanted to book a 4 or 5 day cruise to Mexico next year, but noticed that Radiance will be heading back to Florida. Does anyone know if they plan on bringing a ship to California to do these shorter cruises? It used to be the Monarch but changed to Radiance. Please tell me they will offer more than just the 7 day on the Mariner!?! For a family of 5 the 7 day gets a bit pricey.

I haven't heard any plans for a RCI ship out of Southern California to do 3 and 4 dayers. The Radiance will be back each summer to do the Alaska run, so perhaps she will continue to do shorter cruises during the shoulder months from Southern California. The other Alaska ship, Rhapsody does Asia and the South Pacific when not in Alaska.

I have thought it strange that RCCL has abandoned (at least for now) the short cruises out of LA. They were always very popular, especially with the stop in San Diego. Hopefully they'll deploy another ship sometime soon.

At this time I doubt that Royal Caribbean has any plans to resume the short cruises from California full time. Likely the Radiance will offer some short cruises on its way to/from Alaska, but I don't see a Royal Caribbean ship doing short cruises from California full time in the near future.

Royal Caribbean is currently building two new ships. But at the same time Royal Caribbean has plans to transfer two of its older ships to its European subsidiary. Thus no net gain in number of ships.

Hello
Well, this is pretty sad news. When we were on the Mariner of the Seas this last June, during our "Welcome Back" session with Captain Johnny the question was asked, why did RCI pull the Monarch on the Seas from the port of LA and did RCI have any plans in the future to bring another ship to replace her for the 3 and 4 days cruises down to Baja, MX. Captain Johnny stated "as of now there was no plans in the future to replace her with the reason being the ship only made money on the 3 day cruises. They had problems filling the ship up on the 4 day cruises".
I too was surprised that RCI was letting Carnival have all that business. I sailed on the 4 day cruise on the Monarch of the Seas twice on off season (January and March) and the ship seemed pretty full to me. Can't recall the dinning room being half way full. It's a shame because I really liked the Monarch for a quick get away and there is no way I will sail on Carnival.

so do we,here in FL.. Thanks for giving us the MN..

OK, the real reason that the MN moved to Floridia was so that all those cheap Floridians could take more three day cruises and thus get to Diamond / Diamond Plus in an unreasonable time frame. You can give me a "thanks" PH for clearing that up for everyone.

Just because the ship is full does not mean it is making money. It depends on how low the price had to be set to fill the ship.
