What shore excursions?

Hi All,

I have just found this internet site, and wondered if you can help me. My hubby and I (in our early 30's) are taking a first time cruise to Southern Caribbean (?) on June 13th and wondered if I should book a ship excursion every day or use a local taxi.
I'm a bit nervous of some locals (robbery - we got robbed in Jamaica, although my parents are from there!) and whether we will be dropped back in time. Can you please advise me of the best excursions? We're visiting places like: Barbados, Aruba, Antigua, St Kitts, Grenada, St. Thomas St. Lucia.

Thank you so much,
Maz

Hi,

We took a cab to the aquarium in St Thomas and loved it!!! We took an Excursion to Megan's bay to do some swimming and relaxing. St Johns is also very nice.
St Thomas is a wonderful place to shop if you are looking for T-shirts, Jewlery, leather goods and other fun stuff. Take a cab into town because it is quicker and gives you more time to enjoy the area. You can walk, but it is too far when your time is limited.

We went to Aruba and did some shopping and hired a cab to take us to the beach. BE very careful in the waters around Aruba because there are rip tides. If you talk with the locals they will tell you that several visitors get into big trouble there every year.

St Lucia is my favorite island. We went on an excursion where we went to a plantation and a sulfur mine. It's been several years and I can't remember the name of it, but it was an all day trip and took us way up in the mountains and we seen so much. They say that banana's are their main crop, but I suspect that that is only half true. ;) The natives are very friendly and they try to get you to purchase their hand made necklaces.

I felt like I was a part of National Geographic when i seen a lady washing her clothes in a muddy river with a baby strapped on her back and her naked breasts hanging down. It is a very very poor island, but beautiful..........:(

Wife and I are in our early 40's. We took an all day catamaran from St. Thomas to St. John on the Heavenly Daze. There were only 8 or so on the cat. We sailed about 2 hours each way and had about 3 hours of snorkeling at St. John. Easily the best part of a cruise that included St. Kitt, Grenada (very nice), Isla Margarita, and Aruba.

Well, one night we had arranged to meet a hotel worker at a local wine bar on Montego Bay's Hip Strip. We were searching to find the place but it was taking a while as I wasn't sure where it was.

So anyway while searching, my hubby got chatty (bad move) with some guys and then one started to ask me out behind my hubby's back. When I told my hubby what happened, he went see if he could find him (even bigger move).

Anyway, he then met up with a friend he met on the beach some days earlier and they decided to go out, but thought it best if I stayed at the hotel

Anyway on his way back to the hotel - he was walking alone - he got stopped by a small gang who took all his money. Saying they didn't care if police was around, they want the money now.

We went back to the area the following week and some guy, out of the blue approached my hubby saying that he owes the man some money as he saved his life. What Rubbish! How they remembered his face as well, I do not know.

Even the Kentucky near by is plagued with people begging money. Not poor people necessary, but people trying it on. School kids do it as well (in their uniform!) It's quite dangerous. I wouldn't go back to Montego Bay to stay unless it was all Inclusive and I took scheduled tours.

ps
Black with Jamaican parentage! Beat that.

I just got back from the Golden. Here are the excursions I did:

St. Kitts: 4X4 Explorer. This was a very nice tour. Some friends also like the railroad tour.

Grenada: Grenada Highlights. This was an excellent tour and our guide Tony was superb. The bus was air-conditioned, a plus over the non-airconditioned Grenada Explorer tour.

Aruba: Catamaran and Snorkel. This was our favorite. We snorkeled at two sites (one a shipwreck) and then were dropped off for lunch and beach time.
