Once again, never have cruised before..........

ship docks in Miami at 8 am - plane doesn't leave until 6 pm

I'd like to go sight seeing in Miami - but what do I do with my luggage?  Airport said I can't check it until 3-4 hours before my flight.

Also, any advice what to check out in Miami?
