What to do and see in Belize?

We will have our 6 yr old grandson also in tow!!!

Is there a nice beach where we all can go and have fun in the water? One that has a nice beach and clean water?

All excursions seem so high! Can you find a place to go paying a local firm which doesn't cost an arm and leg?

Going to look into Chanaub (whatever park) in Cozumel. That sounds like a winner.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Unfortunately, there are now beaches close by in Belize City. We did the SharkRay Alley Excursion and had a great time. I know the excursions are pricey, but if you notice they take up all day. The ship weighs anchor several miles off shore due to the reef and it is a half hour trip to shore. The excursion boats pick you up and the ship and save time. If you are unwilling to do and excursion, consider staying on board ship. People who did the other excursions had a great time, but people who went to town, either used a taxi to get a tour or didn't find much to do. This is still a relatively new port to cruise ships and still being built up. It may sound not all that great, but I truely cannot wait to go back and many people who did one shore excursion had great times and wished they had time to try other excursions.
Go, have fun

Glore, your grandson may like a visit to the Baboon Sanctuary. I am not recommending that you do this on your own however. As a tender port, there is more to consider than just money. If this is the only port you take a tour, you may wish to consider biting the bullet. I would skip the expense of Chankannab Park. Take a taxi $12-14 each way total to a beach instead. I used to recommend Playa del Sol, but even there you now have to pay admittance. There was another beach mentioned at Cozumel but I am not positive of the name; Senior Sanchez or something like that comes to mind. Eat on board ship, just bring some fruit with you in case he needs a snack. Of course don't leave home without juice boxes! Make sure you save them for Port Days! He can have lemonade, juices or fruit punch on board ship from the buffet area.
Bon Voyage

I would reccomend against trying to do anything on your own in Belize. I did shark ray alley and my wife went river tubing...we both had a great time. Belize is pretty new to cruisers and there is not much you can just go do by yourself. Besides there is saftey in numbers. I can't wait to go back it is beautiflul!

How much does cave tubing cost? Did you do the tour through Carnival?

Cave tubing is $65 with Reggie and about $79 through the ship (Carnival Legend) which includes lunch. However, your little guy is too little. I do not believe they allow children that young. I just read 18 was the limit. That note was from a 17 year old.

I just received a note from him this morning: write him at regtour@btl.net. He is $65 US. The one thing that concerns me is his last pharagraph regarding health and lifevests. Personally I am not a strong swimmer and a little overweight and out of shape. This is the first time that I have read such detail. I will copy and paste his response to my questions for you:

"I usually leave around 10 am, however what works best is for me to tell all in my group to tender ASAP, that means if you can get on the first one, fine, if not then the first one after ship's excursions, we have never ever had any problems with timing as I will
leave when I determine that you will not show up.

here is my info on tubing::::::::::the info below is just to give you some knowledge of the
tour. NO problem . you can also go to www.regtour.com to see a few pics. you book by E.mail pay on arrival. Please read below then reply if you want to book ill be happy to be your guide for the day. first we drive for 1 hr to our destination then, to make my description short ,after a 30 minn walk through an exciting jungle trail, we begin a river ride on inner tubes for 40 minns to an hr I will guide you through spectacular jungle and cave scenery, that the movies &theme parks only try to imitate. my price is $65 per person cash only in Belize or in advance to secure your space VISA or master card accepted , name, # & expiration date needed. our cancellation policy is : our fault = full refund, your fault = full refund less $10.00 per person. at least one person if not all should get off ship early to pay for the group if you are paying in Belize, the earlier we
start the better. I will be there to meet you, I wear a red cap & a yellow shoulder bag, I also have a sign marked Reggie's CAVE TUBING NOW or just ask for Reggie the cave
tuber, we usually arrive back to the dock 2:30 to 3:00 pm that's long before the ships tour. each one should bring a strapped on sandals or older tennis shoe to walk the trail and in the water. ..........you book by E.mail pay on arrival....... Reggie

note don't worry about timing we > have all the bases covered for you, even our own private tender should that become necessary,( do not fall for the old line that you may miss tender if you arrange your own tour ) lease send me your cabin # and the ages of
any under 10 years old upon booking. if you are a total none swimmer bring your own vest, no need for a lot of repellent one can for the whole goup is ok we do not need it 99 percent of the time.

this tour is not for any one very much over weight or with any physical disabilities, diabetic, heart or breathing problems, if any one cannot swim they should bring their own vest. it is not a dangerous tour but we must take these precautions. we will not be responsible for any one that deceives us just to make the list. we plan to show you the greatest time in your Caribbean Cruise life. but we need your cooperation. we have not missed a ship in the 5 years of Calls and we do not intend to do so on your date."

You and your grandson might enjoy the Belize Zoo (different from the Baboon Sanctuary). Our tour took us on a bus ride to the zoo where we spent a couple of hours. They have monkeys, jaguars, and many other animals. Following the zoo, we were served lunch and then taken on a boat ride down the Belize River (where we were able to see monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, etc. in the wild). The children travelling in our group seemed to really enjoy themselves and we certainly did.

Anyone have the new web page for reggie's cave tours? Regtour.com no longer works.

Can't help with Reggies but if I personally recommend X-Stream Cave Tubing just excellent. From the moment they met us at the port the trip was superb, best day on the entire cruise. Its only $60 per person for xstream, great deal and we got to do an extra set(system?) of caves. Truely phenominal.

I wouldn't recommend this trip though for 6 year olds, I think thats a little young personally. You should have a look at Goff's Caye as you can snorkel and there is a beach too, might be more appealing for the younger kids.
