What are your favorite things to do in Tortolla?

Are there any sites/excursions that you feel are "not to be missed"?

Please let me know!

Thanks!

Take the short trip to the Baths in Virgin Gorda. It was the most amazing beach!! There is a path through the caves and boulders to another beach that is not to be missed!!! You will not be sorry!

Have a great time!

Hi Liz!! I too am going to Tortola and plan to visit the Baths. Couple of questions....can you snorkle there? Also, is it something I have to book atour on the cruise ship for, or can I take a taxi there. What do you recommend? Thanks.

The Baths are a not to be missed destination. You cannot take a cab there as they are on Virgin Gorda, a separate island separated from Road Town by a 30 minute tender ride. We booked through the ship and were not disappointed as all you got was the boat trip and transportation on Virgin Gorda to the Baths ( short open air taxi ride). Once there, the expoloration is on your own. You can book in Road Town at the end of the pier and the water taxis to Virgin Gorda are pretty reasonable. the trip is however a wonderful experience. No swimming is even necessary to traverse the caves and the beach at the outlet is picture perfect.

We also took the ship excursion. It was well worth it. I recommend wearing sneakers because the open air taxi leaves you at the top of hill and you must walk down a step path to the baths. There are lockers there if you are worried about leaving your things on the beach. Definately bring a camera! I'm sure you can snorkel, the waters are so calm. We didn't, so I'm not sure if there was much to see.

They also provided a rum punch drink as we were boarding the open taxi for the return trip. The weather was threatening the whole day and the sky opened just then. We all got soaked! It was really fun!!! I wish we were going back!

Have a great trip!

That is great!! Lockers!!! I was worried I wouldn't be able to bring my camera because I would have no place to put it while I was snorkeling. Now, does anyone have an idea how much the water taxi's are if you do not book through the ship?

There are two water taxis, actually called ferries. One is Smith's Ferry and the other is Speedy's Ferry. They charge $23 per person round trip. This includes the ferry over to Virgin Gorda and back to Tortola, and a taxi from the ferry pier on Virgin Gorda to the top of The Baths, and back to the ferry pier. The Baths are not to be missed!
