What to see from Haifa?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We have a private guide set up for a tour for six for two days in Israel. The first day, when the ship docks in Ashdod, we are going to do a tour of, basically, Jerusalem...

But we are still undecided on what to do from Haifa...I believe all six of us have visited Israel before...and at least one of our group members said they don't care what we see so long as it is interesting. Most of us enjoy archaeological sites...but, of course, there are many choices...

Our tour guide has suggested either Caesarea and the Central Coast...or...the "Lower Galilee" with visits to Megiddo (Armageddon) and Beit Shean...

I know Caesarea has always been a popular site with its old Roman era ruins...but Megiddo goes back thousands of years beyond that (and was the "source" for Michener's "The Source") and Beit Shean is supposed to be an incredible ancient archaeological dig...and an Israeli National Park...

Has anyone been to these areas and have an opinion? Or any alternate ideas? Our guide can customize the itinerary to our wishes...

Thanks...

Parrot Mom,
Actually, we were on the Oceania Nautica...and were on the cruise when you sent your initial response...so, we are home now...had a great cruise...

For our two days is Israel, we had our guide meet us in Ashdod and do a full day in Jerusalem...We started out with about three hours at Yad Vashem--the Holocaust Memorial and Museum--really fascinating and moving...then into the old city, walking through all four quarters, visiting David's Tomb, the Western Wall, the Via Dolorosa and Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Mount of Olives and other sites, then a driving tour through the new city and Mea Shearim...

Out of Haifa, we toured Megiddo, Kibbutz Ein Shemer and Caesaria and ended up with a driving tour of Haifa and a stop on the mountain top for the views...

Really a couple of great days...

With a private guide, we moved quickly and efficiently with a group of six...and the total teo day cost came out to $415 per couple plus a few dollars for admission charges and lunches...We had the ability to customize our own tours, pick our sites and the length of visits...The guide we used was Joel Berman (jtours.com)...a former Israeli Army officer, born in South Africa...

THAT IS GREAT HELP..Celebrity right now is offering what appears a great 10 hour tour.but I'm open to all suggestions.. I still want to see the Chagall windows.. Also, don't all guides have to be licensed in Israel.. We have over a year to go...any other hints..
