What's 2 Early 4 Flight time out of ORL, coming from Pt Canaveral

Hi,
Traveling next April on the Glory with both sets of parents, arranging flights back home. When we get back into Port Canaveral, we have arranged for a private shuttle back to the Orlando Airport. Problem is, our choice of flight times are 11:50 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. --yuck :( Would 11:50 be cutting it too close even with private transportation? I know it is a 50 minute drive, then we need enough time to check in and get through the baggage screening and security checkpoint. I did email the transport company -- Art's Shuttle Serivce -- waiting to hear back from them. Has anyone else had a flight time like this? I would love any feedback I could get on this since this will be the first time at both the Orlando Airport and at Pt Canaveral for us.
Thanks,
lainie

When i called CCL about this for an 11:55 AM flight, they said that that should be all right. They said they wouldn't recommend doing an 11:30 time. Call them and see what they say about an 11:50.

Lets look at this logically. Flight leaves 11:50 am
Most airlines recommend an hour and a half ,to two hours
for check in, and security screening
Many airlines will not board you, if you arrive less than 45
minutes prior to flight departure, (might want to look into this one)
Roughly 50 minutes travel from port

So lets look at the times, lets say everything, goes off without a hitch
your looking at 2 hours 20 minutes travel & check in. (and thats going with the low numbers)
If you have priority disembarking tags, your putting your faith in customs clearing the ship for disembarkation by 8:30
Do you think you can be off the ship by 8:30 am?
Me i sure wouldn't take the chance, all it takes is one guest not going to the pursers desk to pay their sign & sail bill, one traffic accident, one mechanical problem,
and you have a miserable end to a great cruise

Mitch

Mitch, I have actually cruised 4 times before and have had less than the required time in the airport and I think many others will report this as well. The only difference here is that the travel time from Port to Airport is a bit longer, 50 minutes vs the usual 30 minutes between Miami and Ft Lauderdale that I have experienced. While I appreciate your "logic" I've never had 1.5 -2 hours wait in an airport post cruise. I think redcrown is right . (see her post) I guess I will verify this with the cruise line myself just to be sure and also with my private shuttle service.
Thanks for your input,
lainie

maybe i am reading this wrong
Did you book your air through carnival, or on your own?
I am taking it that you booked your own air, if that is the case
just remember its not carnivals problem if you miss your flight.
So they can pretty much say whatever ( call three times, and i bet you get three different answers from carnival customer service)
(not trying to be nasty, or anything)
The same as if you book your own shore tours and miss the ships departure.
Its on you if you miss the flight.
Personaly I am the kind of person who likes to have a safety margin,
and in my opnion an 11:50 departure is just asking for problems.
but thats just me
Good luck, and best wishes.

Mitch

Fortunately, I'm staying in Orlando for a few days when we cruise on Pride next month. I'll take my time getting off the ship.

Mitch, I'm with you.....Lainie you must be a gambler because that is way to close.....Normally Carnival wants you to book after 1:00 pm. But its your money at stake...what if your stuck in traffic? What if there is a problem at debarkation? Unless you booked your flights with Carnival your definately on your own if there is a problem...
Good Luck!

Actually, no, I am not into gambling at all...and this is why I posted my question, to hear what others have to say. We fly on Midwest, a smaller regional airline, and yes, we book it ourselves. Have always done it this way. Wouldn't dream of blaming CCL for any missed flight. Maybe after I hear back from Art's we'll have to book that NASA tour and take the 7PM back home! :)
Thanks!

We just did this yesterday. Got off the Fantasy at about 8:30 (we did NOT request early disembarkation but we were in one of the first color groups called), took about a minute to find our luggage (seriously), walked out of the terminal and met our shuttle driver who was waiting with a sign (Travelink, $60), and headed to Orlando. We were dropped off at the terminal and inside at 9:35. This was a Friday, so not a lot of outbound travel (there was NO waiting for security), but hopefully this gives you some idea. We also flew Midwest!

Have done this before on many occasions and have been told by CCL and RCCL anytime from Noon on will be fine. But as Mitch says, one majore accident and one could be in trouble. Also as Mitch said you call 3 times and will get 3 different responses but the jest has always been you should be ok with a noon or later flight. Just have to do what is comfortable for you.

Yes--from Milwaukee!! Changes on Midwest? You mean the food, or the low cost airline? Don't think the low cost line has started yet. The absence of the excellent Midwest meal service is certainly disappointing, although I can understand it from their cost, financial condition perspective. Still by far the best airline to fly. The ala carte sandwiches are excellent, but too much and at $10 per, too pricey. They are large enough that you could easily split it between two and have a good snack for only $5.
