What's with Venezuela?

We're on the Volendam in January. One of the places we go ashore is Isla de Margarita. Now we hear on the news there's trouble around Venezuela, and 'everyone' (tourists) is advised to stay away. Is Margarita too close? How can we find out?

If the ship stops at Margarita it is probably out of harms way. If the ship passes the port it was probably too close. The cruise lines are pretty good at knowing when and where to avoid certain ports.

Not much there anyway but a stop for cheap fuel for the cruise line.

Wildrose,

We made this stop two years ago on the Ocean Princess. It was a very depressed island. We went to a beach on the opposite side of the island from where the ship docked. The beach was called El Agua, if I remember right. It was a beautiful place to spend the afternoon, as long as you could stand the constant hawking of the beach peddlers. They tried to sell you everything from a frozen margarita to a massage.

Nice place to say we visited, but once was enough.......

Have a great cruise.....

Isla Margarita is an island off of Venezuela. If they stop be sure to take tour. We had a great time but lots of complaints from people who didn't.

We stopped in Isle of Margherita last year. A tour might be OK. We took a taxi to Aqua beach. 45 min. ride in a unairconditioned taxi, the windows wouldn't roll down , and the driver didn't speak english. If I did it again I would stay on board!
