Whats your favorite activity in this port?

My favorite is to go over the French side for some shopping and eating. They have great french pastries and restraunts. Its very quant with a chance to purchase many items you'd have to go to France to get. I find it much more interesting than the Dutch side which is filled with many of the tourist shop's you see in almost all of the ports of call.

How about you?

My favorite activity is to go to Orient Beach. This is my favorite beach. I thinks it's the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. There are water sports to do there too. Or you can just sit there, relax, enjoy a drink and the view.

We've only been once...we took the bus over to Marigot and hung out for a bit and then took another bus up to Grande Case and ate lunch at a rib shack place and swam in the water. Then we took the buses back to Philipsburg and walked around and went to the Guavaberry Factory and had a guavaberry colada...yum! Did a bit of shopping and then it was time to head back to the ship.

Do a little shopping in the AM then spend the rest of the day at Orient Beach. This is my all time favorite beach, it's so beautiful.

Mr. Utley - Sorry, I've not checked this board in a while.

First we took the water taxi over to Phillipsburg...I believe it was $5 R/T. Then we walked up a few blocks and caught the bus. I really don't know how to tell you how to get to the bus stop but a local pointed us in the correct direction and will be glad to do so for you. The bus is really a van and there is a sign in the window of the van telling where that van goes to. The total charge was $2.50 ea versus the $20 the taxi wanted. It was $1.50 to Marigot and then another $1.00 to Grande Case.

Hope this info. helped.

I really enjoy Dawn beach on the Dutch side. Not as far of a cab ride as Orient beach, it's gorgeous and you can rent two chairs and an umbrella for $10.00. This beach is heaven to me. Lots of waves crashing far out, but little cove for swimming is protected and lots of fun riding the waves and playing in the water. Nice little beachside bar there and not much else.

I love taking the bus for local color. If I recall, I walked directly inland from the pier in Phillipsburg and the vans to Marigot were heading down one 1-way street and te return one block over on another 1-way street. Yes, a sign in the front window tells you where it's going.

Does anyone know the distance from the pier to the Zoological Park in St. Maarten? We would like to do that while in port, since we have been to St. Maarten several times. Is it in walking distance, or should we take a bus? Thanks for any help, Dee

America's Cup Regatta is in my top 2 excursion category. Cannot decide if it is #1 or #2! We raced on the Stars and Stripes and beat True North. What an exhilerating experience. My DH was a grinder and I was a winch wench! The best part was when they let me steer the boat back into the harbor. What a thrill.

I agree with the first post. We had our 1 year old with us so we took a taxi to the French side, walked around, and found a couple of great bakeries with yummy pastries. You should have seen my husband try to order a latte though, he ended up with a shot of espresso and about a tablespoon of milk, obviously it is not widely ordered there! We enjoyed walking around, the drive, and then heading back to the shops on the Dutch side for some good shopping deals.
