Wheelchairs Provided?

Does anyone have experience with wheelchairs onboard? On our 'Cruise Personalizer' page I have requested a wheelchair be provided for Grandma. She already has a collapsable chair that is easy to toss in the trunk. Should I bother with the cruise lines' chair and just bring that one, or would it be better to trust Princess and save the baggage space?

You would be well advised to bring her wheelchair. The wheelchairs on board are limited and cannot be taken off the ship - so if she wants to go on shore, she will need her own wheelchair.

Even though wheelchairs are available onboard, there may be a wait at the airport, port, etc...before you even get to the cruiseship. I've heard some posts regarding this problem recently.

If you have the ability, I'd bring the collapsing wheelchair as backup.

Hi. Bring your own. The cruiselines use older, heavier wheelchairs that are not allowed off the ship. The other problem is that if someone on board gets hurt and needs the wheelchair, grandma is out of luck.

If you travel by air contact the airline ahead of time. You can gate check the wheelchair and it will meet you anytime you need it. The other way is check it as luggage and use airline one at each port. The wheelchair does not count as weight for her.

There is also special lines for check in for the disabled on the cruise. They will push her aroundif you wish, right up to the ship.
