My friend and I are leaving on the November 13th sailing on the Fantasy,, by the way we have posted a roll call which no one seems to be going on , so the hope of an upgrade is possible:) I have been trying the Kelly method through Carnival, and it says we cant send a gift to a guarenteed cabin. We are leaving in 12 days... How close to departure will Carnival actually figure out where they are putting us ?? Could it go to the day before, or even at the pier?? I would think for some kind of assemblance that they would know where all the passsengers are to be by atleast a week before hand. If someone could please tell me that would really be great Also

ANYONE at all sailing with us ??? are we really all alone

Ordinarily, you should have a cabin assignment 12 days out. I would check with my TA to confirm that. Having said that however, there are times when you won't learn of your cabin assignment until you arrive at the pier. Just ask the porter; he has all of the cabin assignments in his log.

I just called Carnival yesterday to try and figure out what my cabin assignment is for my sailing on the Glory in about a week. I was told to ask the porter when we get to the pier. I even asked my TA to check for me and she said she's only been able to get a cabin assignment for a guaranteed cabin on Carnival ONCE. So it doesn't look good for us who are anxiously awaiting our assignment!

You can send a gift to a guranteed cabin - all you have to do is call the number instead of place the order online. You still need your booking number.

I always book guarantee and have never received my cabin assignment from Carnival prior to arriving at the pier. And, that includes two back2backs with them. I didn't know my cabin for week two until day one of week two began. I don't really care where they put me, and I like the surprise of it all when I board the ship.

Enjoy your cruise, mlz!

You will get your cabin assignment from the porter at the pier Carnival is getting to big and is having to run thier cruiseline like a major company rather than a come on in a stay awhile cruiseline. You can order gifts by using the 800 number the give you. But your docs will come with these cute little gray tags that say gty thats what the porters are looking out for so they can give you new tags with your cabin assignment. I can see a big differance in Carnival 3 years ago and Carnival now. I didnt relize how inpersonable it was getting til I took another NCL cruise a couple of months ago and the guy meeting and greeting as you walked on was welcoming everyone aboard til he saw me and knew by my pin I was a latitudes member and he shook my hand and said welcome home. That made a world of differance. I said all of that to make a point Carnival now has like 66 ships the good ol days are gone they are to the point where they basically take your money send you docs and hope you have a good time and come again. no more of this personal service stuff we were used to. I relized this on my last cruise they spent time with us answering questions, they walked us to our room (Our bottom of the ship inside not a suite) and afterwards a welcome home letter and it said if I had and concerns to please call them. Its not much but it meant the world to us and it was a wake up call that the old Carnival is gone. Not saying I wont sail on them we are going on the Elation in Oct. 04. Its just everyone wants service out of a company thats to big to provide it.

Curious minds are interested in which CCL cruises you have been on in the past three years. And, your post has what to do with the originator’s question?

mlzangel78 Well I am not saying your post is real or fiction but you leave a lot of dought when you said you go an upgrade on your first cruise. Being that is a past guest benefit one of Carnival only and you are going on one of Carnivals most popular ships on one of their most popular sailings. But who knows.

Sea Turtle All I am saying is people wonder why you used to book GTY and get your cabin assignments a month out now the last year its been wait til you get to the pier Its because they are so big they are losing site of customer service and until you take a small cruiseline that has the time to give that little extra you dont relize it.

Cash1986 i think you'll find reading more posts that many people get upgrades regardless of wether its thei first cruise or not. i got an upgrade because the price dropped and i called my TA to see what she could do , she got me an upgraded cabin. most posts here will tell you that rather than refund or give you a shipboard credit, they will upgrade you , which makes sense to me, if they upgrade me they make out twice, i paid for a cabin and they upgrade me to an empty one, which would have remained empty, however , now that can re-sell my cabin and make out twice.

plus heres the deal my thoughts are this: if you dislike carnival so much cruise somewhere else, they are a value cruise line, you dont eat at mcdonalds and expect tavern on the green service, so why should you feel any different about carnival.... you book it , enjoy it- oh and by the way, hundreds of people a year are not as fortuante to go on any kind of vacation so suck it up , and quit your moaning :)

Lifes to short to be sad you go on vacation dont ya think ?????

For starters you didnt say you got it because of a price drop. Thats only luck you just said you got an upgrade and yes there is a differance. and 2 I never said I didnt like Carnival its people like you that add things to what has been said that makes these message boards a bad place.

then take your negative attitude somewhere else, second of all you know nothing about me to make an assumption of "people like you" i think its your sheer ignorance that makes it difficult have a good time on the message board. however since you think that message boards are a bad place as you clearly stated in the post above stop reading them and do not post anythingon them , and we will all be satisfied !!!!

Also the mention of the upgrade, was not to evoke anything other than a kudos from other message mated you normally congratulate on said upgrades... oh yeah and one more thing i am sailing on princess in 25 days, and it is my first cruise with them and we were offered an upgrade as well. so ha !! also if you READ thoroughly you will see that there is NO rhyme or reason as to why people get upgraded without paying... i believe other posters call it the upgrade fairy, it could be becasue your in a particlulary inexspensive cabin cat. that the cruiseline would like to see to fill up the ship, and amillion other reasons, sounds like you NEED a vacation my dear friend, to get that hawty taughty stick out one's behind. Chill out book a cruise and go away. I could care less wether it was luck or not all that matters is that it was an unexpected delight.

when you know me you can judge me until then : keep your negative opinions to yourself

to all the rest of you, i love this board, and you have all been very helpful and wonderful planning my first cruise thank you so much

While I disagree with your suggestion that cabin assignment at the pier for a guarantee status booking is related to inferior customer service, I do acknolwedge your opinion and thanks for the clarification of your initial post.

Actually my point was that you cant expect awesome costomer service for a huge company there just isnt enough time in a day. Carnival has 66 ships and like 12 more coming on in the next 2 years. Like I said a big wake up call for me was when we boarded the sky The first person I saw said welcome home, a lady asked for our room key and walked us to our room (thats something you would expect on a premium line not a main stream line) and when we got to our room a bottle wine was waiting along with a note that an hourdourve tray was waiting just call room service. Thats the differance between a 12 ship company and a 66 ship company. Yes I still get the letters after every cruise that says thank you for choosing Carnival when you book again please call us with your booking number so we can arrange a special gift. I dont know if I get those because of all the money I give them every year or because I am a stockholder thats and interesting question.

cash1986 , i completely agree about the customer service,,, i booked through an internet TA, if you search for a post called not going to spoil my views you will understand how aggrivated i was over CCL since i am also sailing with princess in 3 weeks, and yes in know that ccl owns princess but princess was above and beyond extraordinary when it came to customer service. it is a shame that ccl doesnt have time for customer service, however, i dont think the vast majority of people care because they cater mostly to middle class americans (which I am one of) to give them an opportunity to cruise at a reasonable price... most of us are just glad we are going on a cruise. those of us who have had the ooprtunity to sample the other lines like rcl and princess know that there is a whole nuther world out there. carnival is now for the masses where you can get a cat 6d for 288.00 per person :) that was my good deal :) and its cheap enough to go often. i do agree, however let me also say this... i booked my princess cruise 7day cw also with an internet TA and got a cat bb on the caribe deck for 627.00 p/p plus a 100.00 shipboard credit..... i know i would rather spend the extra 300 for a line that goes way out of their way. My carnival cruise is a cruise with a girlfriend to get a way from the husbands. the princess cruise is with the husband so it depends are you looking for a getaway, or a vacation. i know that either way i wont be in NEW Jersey so i dont care what ship im on :)

Are you back yet? I am curious how your trip was, fabulous I'm sure! How many days before you left did you get your cabin assignment? Did it come with your main documents or did they send you something seperate? Just curious. I'm sailing on the Imagination Dec. 13. I've never even been out of Iowa so this is a big deal for me-and my husband. What cabin guarentee did you have and what did you get upgraded to?
