When to book?

Curious to know when most people book their excursions? Do they ever "sell out"? Although our vacation is months away (Easter week) I am tempted to book our excurisons so that they re paid for before we leave and are not hit hard with added expenses on board. We are interested in Xcaret in Cozumel and River tubing in Jamaica. Are these popular side trips?

If you are booking ship tours, then you wont pay for them until you settle your account at the end of your cruise regardless of when you book them. Yes, the ships tours sell out, as do the popular independent ones. No harm in booking early, as long as you remember what you have booked and pay close attention to cancellation policies. Have a great time.

It depends on which cruise line you're with. Some charge upon booking, others not until you're onboard. Double-check which yours is.

Yes, some excursions sell out, but they're typically ones which have limited availability which cannot be changed. Dolphin swims, horseback riding, flight seeing, kayaking, and golf come to mind. Sometimes if there is instruction involved, like discover scuba, also sell out quickly.

Both the excursions you list are popular, though probably not ones with extremely limited availability, especially X-Caret.

Have fun!

Since you are on the Carnival forum, I will presume you are sailing on a Carnival ship. They have not started to Pre-book ship's tours as of this date. That does not mean that it won't happen before you cruise next April. I recently spoke about this issue with a district sales manager. They are looking into the issue and have done some live testing. It will probably take a long time for every ship to be able to offer this feature. As mentioned, some cruise lines do actualy put the charge on your credit card when you make the reservation, while others don't charge your account until you sail (I like that one.) Be preprared to book your ship tours as soon as you board your ship - interactive TV works great.
Bon Voyage

If you have your heart set on certain excursions, book them now. I missed out on an excursion once because it booked quickly - I learned my lesson!
