Make sure it's a cheap watch and/or waterproof because if you're like me you'll lose it. Same with camera- I leave the nice digital on board if I'm going to have an active port (snorkel, etc.) and take a disposable waterproof camera.

Depends on the excursion. If its going to be a dry one, I take a bag with basically the same items above (sunscreen, sun glasses, money, credit card, ship card, watch, camera, film, etc). Sounds like a lot, but I only take what I have to, hate carrying a heavy bag all day. If Im going to get wet that day, I take the ships towel that they provide, swimsuit (or change of clothes if Im wearing my swimsuit), aqua socks, I bring my own snorkel equipment and a water camera. I dont take a lot of money, dont want to lose it... or worse.

First 2 things to take - and most important - are your ID and your shipboard card. I don't know how many people I've seen standing at the top of the gangplank...holding up the line behind them to get back on the ship...and arguing with the crew member because they didn't know they needed ID to get back on the ship (even after it was announced numerous times in numerous places).

My husband and I got VERY lucky on our cruise 3 weeks ago to the East Caribbean, and so I am going to pass on some very valuable tips....
Besides your ship ID card (which you need to get OFF the ship to begin with), ALWAYS have a back-up piece of identification (preferably a photocopy of your passport) with you. And...ALWAYS keep this back-up photo ID in a separate place from where your Ship ID card is.
Here's the story...after an RCI-sponsored excursion in St. Maarten, my hubby and I got back to the pier, and realized he did NOT have his wallet. He had been snorkeling, and had given me his wallet to keep while I lounged on the beach. We don't know where it disappeared, or how...I DID leave my bag unattended for a few moments while I used the beach facilities. Anyway, he did not have his Driver's License or his Ship ID card. Fortunately, before the cruise, I had taken our passports up to Office Depot and had them not only copied, but laminated, as well. I kept the original passports in our safe on the ship; I gave MY laminated copy of my passport to my husband to keep in his billfold, while HIS copy was kept in MY billfold.
So, when we got back to the pier, sans billfold with his Ship ID, I showed Security his laminted passport copy that I still had with MY belongings, and we had no problems getting back on the ship. Because we each carried DIFFERENT credit cards, we still had the credit card I was carrying to use for the remainder of the trip, since we had to cancel the credit card he had lost.
AND...most importantly....thank GOD we had our passports, or he would not have gotten past security at the airport...remember, his driver's license was gone. He would otherwise have had NO photo ID!!!! The passport allowed him to breeze past security with no questions asked; if we had not had the passports, he would have been visiting the consulate in Puerto Rico, I'm sure...!
So....DON'T: 1. carry more cash or credit cards than you will need
2. carry ALL of your ID's in the same place (DO spread them out between your group)
3. leave your bags unattended, even for a minute
DO: 1. have a photocopy of your passport with you OFF of the ship, & carry each other's
2. Have 2 different credit cards, but each of you should only have ONE of them
BTW...Royal Caribbean called last week, and said the wallet had been found (minus the cash, of course!) and they are mailing it back to us.

I think Sherri's post above is excellent. When we go to the beach/snorkeling I wear a water wallet (small plastic case) around my neck. It's just large enough for my ship ID, a credit card and a little cash. I won't take an expensive camera to the beach - I use the underwater disposables. It's also a good idea to take the emergency port contact phone number with you when on shore - it's posted in theships news letter which is left in your cabin the night before. Don't forget the suntan lotion and a hat. Losing a wallet can create a lot of problems. My son visited his girfriend over Thanksgiving. He took the train and when he returned home he found he had her wallet, because she didn't want to carry a purse! She had a heck of time trying to fly back to New York after the weekend - she did not have her driver's license which was in the wallet or her passport which was back in New York. Fortunately, the airline let her fly with her social security card and an alternative photo ID.

I think this is a great idea! I am trying to find a water safe and because of the time of year I am having trouble finding it, along with waterproof cameras, and water shoes!

Do you have to copy all of the pages in the passport or just the page with your picture and the page with your signature?
So far I made a copy of the page with the picture and the page with the signature. Thank you for the suggestion of getting them laminated. I'm going to do that before I leave.

If my old lady lost my wallet she wouldnt be getting back on the ship, she would be walking home.
