suzrouk. the above advice assumes you are a US citizen.. If you are not..... your passport is taken when you check in aboard the ship and kept throughout the cruise by the Cruiseline. You get it back the day before you leave the cruise. This happens to us all the time and we take photocopies of our passport ashore in all ports.I don't know how this works when you leave from another country or say ..Europe somewhere ????
