I'm leaving on a cruise out of San Juan and don't have a clue where to stay. I was thinking about the InterContental or the Caribe Hilton, any feedback on either of these? any other suggestions would be appreciated..

I usually suggest the Normandie. It is a nautical themed hotel and the rooms are designed to resemble cruise ship cabins, only bigger. Another popular one is the Sheraton Old Town.

=funsign on your cruise.

The Doubletree is about the best value and very nice. The Caribe Hilton is really great but VERY expensive.

Jewels, are you going to be there for just a day before your cruise, or longer ? If you are staying just one day, I would book the Doubletree or any other hotel within your budget. About 2 weeks before you go, I would try Priceline to see if you can get a nicer hotel like the Hilton or Intercontinental for the same price. Some people are afraid to use Priceline, but for hotels it's really a no problem situation, you choose your price, and the star hotel and you choose in the area. I have done this many times booked a Best western type, and ended up at a Hyatt for the same price, I love those seconds when they are deciding to choose your offer and you saved $100's and stay at a beautiful hotel, instead of a nice one.

I've only stayed at the Caribe Hilton. It's not that expensive if you are used to traveling. I love the free roaming peacocks out back. Actually, it's not nearly as nice as it once was, but it's still the only decent hotel IMO

I went with a group of friends in January '08 and we stayed at the Embassy Suites near the airport. I never see anyone mention it on this website so I thought I'd chime in. We were very pleased with our rooms and the hotel in general. Price was one of the best I could find.

We have stayed at the El Convento. It is absolutely beautiful. Directly across the street from the Cathedral of San Juan. The hotel has a wine and cheese reception every evening on its patio overlooking the old City and the Cathedral. Highly recommended, but expensive. Worth the price for romance, pampering and location.

Is this the Embassy Suites with the casino? We are planning on staying there next year for our Serenade cruise. There will be 3 of us & I like the idea of my sister's being in a seperate bedroom...they tend to be noisy sleepers...:)

Would love to hear more..if you'd prefer you can PM me...

We stayed at the Embassy Suites last December before our Serenade Cruise. The Casino is very small so if that's an attraction you are looking for, I think you will be disappointed. Otherwise, the hotel was fine. Outback Steakhouse on the premises as well.

Thanks... I am planning to stay out of the casino if possible...don't want to blow my vacation budget before I even get started...:)

Are there any good places to eat close by or are we better off just sticking to the hotel food? I will be doing the rainforest on Sat....but my sisters are just going to stay at the hotel & chill...

Sorry it took so long for me to reply I haven't been on the site in awhile. Yes there is a casino. As another poster said it is not very large, but then how big does it need to be to lose your money? We played the slots of couple of times etc. it seemed adequate. We ate at the Outback Steakhouse one night and it was very good. (It's in the lobby area) My husband usually goes to sleep alot earlier than I do so I like having a separate sitting room. You can go on the website for Embassy Suites and see several pictures of the rooms. My whole group was very happy withh the accomodations and liked meeting in the lobby for the breakfast etc. I arranged for a tour to El Yunque and Loquillo Beach with Victor from Countryside Tours (www.countrysidetourspr.com). He picked us up at the hotel (at the time he said he would) He was very enjoyable, and all agreed his price was reasonable. We ate at a local restaurant near the hotel recommended by Victor, it was really good but I can't remember the name right now. I'll search around and see if I can find it.
