Where is your Spot

Do any of you have a particular cabin you like, or area of the ship you like your cabin in?
We like the upper decks ourselves front of the ship, on the starboard side you can see what happening at the ports, etc.

If I can't have an aft balcony cabin, then I like port side near any aft fantail deck. Between rear elevators and fully aft is great.

I prefer one of the larger suites, either side of the ship; whatever is available.

That having been said, all I can afford is an inside guaranteed share, lowest category. But it's better than staying home.

Actually my favoirte spot is on the veranda late at night watching the stars and listening to the sound of the ship moving through the water. It is so peaceful and relaxing, and don't tell anyone, but I have been known to fall asleep on the veranda both during the day and at night.

We always have been on port side on previous cruises for no particular reason I remember. We are almost mid-ship starboard on our Rotterdam 4/3 cruise next week. We booked rather late, so I was thrilled this suite was available, near mid-ship elevator and Neptune Lounge. Are there any 'advantageous' to either side on a Caribbean cruise that anyone can think of? I can see there would be on a one-way Alaskan cruise or any cruise going along a shoreline.

We are always in "S" mid-ship, port side on HAL. That is why we always book early. There is availability.

The one and only time we took a stern suite with big balcony was on Ocean Princess about two or so years ago...b-to-b's. The Suite was really beautiful with a huge marble bath and very large verandah....but I was not happy with the stern location and view. I much prefer mid-ship.

s7s,

We like to book early for the same reason- to get exactly what we want. This time for family reasons we had to wait until late, but decided to go ahead when there was still a mid-ship suite available. But, WHY do you book port rather than starboard??? We do too, but I don't know why! I think forward, mid, aft is a much more important decision to make than port/starboard. We were forward on our first cruise- never again! Didn't know any better.

Okay, now Peach and sail7seas have me worried!

The Penthouses on the Rotterdam are as forward as you can get.
If middle of the ship is the BEST why do they put the PH in the front?

Is it true that the front of the ship moves more and the middle of the ship moves less?
Oooh oooh, am I going to get sea sick?

MARK.....you worry too much!!! :) You will be fine. All of the Penthouses on all the HAL ships are forward. Their placement is just fine.

Most people would agree the smoothest ride is mid-ship, mid height on any ship. These huge cruiseships have wonderful stabilizers. Also, if you look at the deck plan, you see the PH far forward but forward of that are Officers quarters, the bridge, the bow....even though you are forward on Navigation deck, there is a lot of ship forward of you.

Mark-

Sorry, I should have been more explicit about 'forward'. We were on the RCCL Song of America and when I said forward I meant forward! If the window could have been opened we would have had ocean spray on our faces. There was nothing in front of us except a railing and we were really the first thing hitting each wave! I would book a HAL PH in a minute. STOP WORRYING!

S7S is right on the S Class ships with the PH cabins, but on the Vista Class and the Prince they are in the middle down a deck on the Vista and up a deck on the Prince.
We like the Port side of the ship over the Starboard because it seems to us they dock more to the Starboard side.
Here is a good one for you, did you know that Starboard is wrong, it was really Steering Board side of a ship. When they use to steer the ship with a oar or large board from that side of the ship, and to keep the Board safe and able to steer, they always docked on the other side, which is the Port side of the ship.

That's correct, Barry, but I knew he was interested in Rotterdam. Didn't want to confuse the issue :)

As everyone said, you are going to be fine in the location where we are. It is not that far forward, and there is still plenty of ship in front of us. I think that we are both in the perfect location, and if you will notice, that the veranda should be very private. I'm so excited; I'm struggling to keep from packing already.

On the Rotterdam it is 226ft to the bow of the ship from rooms 01 and 02, more if you are in rooms 03 or 04.

So much information.
it is wonderful!
Thank you all.

Sage,
We are like to kids with a toy, excited!
What do you we do after we have travelled the PH?
I know, we work on those dinner parties in the dining room that everyone talked about... :):):) This time however, Roger and I are going to just enjoy it all by ourselves, but then who really knows. Will give you an update after our cruise.!

Mark,

Yes, I agree we are like kids with a new toy, and I plan to throughly enjoy this new toy when we are aboard. You asked what we coud do after the PH? We could try the longer cruises, say the World Cruise. You would have to hold my hand through the packing stage though, as I would be a basket case after planning the third week. I'm so excited about all the people that are going with you. It sounds like you have a wonderful group, and I'm so envious. Now everyone must promise to share all when you get back.

Sage,

If we take a longer cruise, you don't need to pack more, JUST SEND IT To the cleaners every day! Remember its free drycleaning and laundry in the PH and S.

Unless you need to wear a different outfit every night for 60 days one weeks supply is enough! YES? NO?

:)

Sage: Yes BUT take more then one or two days worth, it takes about two days for laundry & dry cleaning, pressing they do in half a day.
Mark: I see that someone has posted a new promo for you in the other thread.
