We're looking for a new desktop computer this weekend. Any ideas on who would have the best deals?

The last several we purchased directly from Dell and were quite pleased. I will soon need another and will have it built because I do not want Vista. I want XP and you can still build your own with XP.

Another vote for Dell here. I have one at home and 3 in my office. When I need to buy one I just wait for the right offer for what my needs are and then buy.

Another vote for Dell. We've bought 2 desktops and 1 laptop from them. Check out their outlet, you might get lucky.

Mine is a Dell, also. They were cheaper than eBay when i bought mine, and I got to build what I wanted. And nobody can beat their warranty. When I had a problem, they came to my house and replace everything inside the computer but the hard drive just to be sure they fixed the problem. I would buy from them again.

If you purchase a Dell printer, the replacement cartridges can only be purchased from Dell, and they a EXPENSIVE.....

I have windows Vista, and it's a pain. There are sites that just won't work right, drives me crazy sometimes. It's no faster, a few fancy buttons that's all.

But I think we are all going to be stuck with it sooner or later.

Also, when you buy a new computer, they come with all the trial versions. then you pay $150.00 for Microsoft Office, $200 for Microsoft Word, etc. They even charge now for Outlook

I remember when you could download these for free...no more.

I'll get off my soapbox now :)

I threw that Dell printer in the rubbish. The print cartridges were outrageous and I just used the printer we have networked. But I still like the Dell computer even though they do silly things like proprietary things at times.

I purchased a Microsoft Office package and can install that on my new computer because it was good for up to 3 installations so I don't worry about that. I can't stand outlook and use my earthlink mailbox so when the time comes after the Holidays I will buy Dell again.

I figure maybe if I get XP again now, in five years maybe something else will be out or Vista greatly improved. I hope so. Right now it is being compared to the big flop windows 2000.

I have an HP printer and scanner. Just have the Dell computer. I had to replace the mouse, and I bought a Microsoft.
