wHITE PASS TRAIN

I am going out on the Norwegian Sky Sept 20th, last cruise for that ship this season. At an online site on the White Pass and Yukon Train excursion, it said no more rides past Sept 18 and we won't even be in Skagway until the 23rd I think. Does anyone know if special allowances are made for cruise ships. I would hate to think that in saving money by taking this cruise, we will be missing out on seasonal excursions.

Thanks!

It may be seasonal. Was the web site wprr.com? Another suggestion would be to rent a car in Skagway at Avis ( $75) and drive the 150 mile round trip to Emerald Lake. This is a beautiful drive and although not as spectacular views as the railroad, it is worth the trip.

We're going on the Infinity and will be there the 22nd. I e-mailed them to make sure they would be running as we had booked the trip...just got a reply and they said "Yes" they did still have excursions running. If you need confirmation , just go to their website and send them an e-mail....Lee

Lisa,

Having just returned from Alaska I highly recommend renting a car and driving to Emerald Lake (or,if you can spend more time, going over to Jakes Corner and down to Atlin which was highly recommended to us but we did'n't do). I haven't taken the train but had read some reviews saying you see more by driving. In fact we pulled over along the road when we spotted a bear not 20 feet away and got fabulous photos. Plus you can stop and picnic en route as well as set your own schedule. A stop at Jewell Gardens, just outside of Skagway on the way back is fun and the Dyea Road overlook just a few miles off the highway gives a great vantage point for photos of your ship. Have fun!
