Why do you want to cruise?

Here's another question that is for curiosity.

Do you cruise to go to the different ports of call...or do you cruise because you love cruising and enjoy the good food and being treated like a king and/or queen for a few days? If you have to put them in order of preference...which is it:

The Ship?
The Ports of Call?

( I bet I'll see lots of : "Both"), but which is it first?

This is my first cruise and i have another in decmeber on the grand princess:

We are going for a few reasons:

A:) its not New Jersey

B: it was an economical way to sea so many different places. MY fiance and i only travel to all inclusive resorts.. i like that the cruises allow you to prepay grat, and the food tax and tip are included, it makes for a very stress free vacation, everythings paid for except excursions... and thats how we like to do it..

1. The Ship (must be huge and full of amenities) because I have a large active family.
This may change when we go as just a couple. If it rains, a small ship just won't do it.

2. The Ports (I like to explore and visit new places, learn some different cultures)

3. Ease of unpacking and packing only once.

4. No arguments as to where to go to eat or things to do. (with 6 people and 6 opinions it can get rather testy on land where everything is reached via car.

My husband and I have been to several all inclusive resorts and decided to try to cruise. We did it for many resons but above most the cost. It was much cheaper than the 5k we have spent on an all inclusive vacation. I am also excited about going to different ports although I suspect I will miss not being submerged in another culture for 10 days. It was something different for us from our usual Caribben vacations and the cruise we selected goes to some unusual destinations.

It is a GREAT value for the money, you don't have to carry a lot of cash around, you don't have to worry about meals, I love the open sea and spending time in different ports of call, the pampering and the choices -- to be active and participate in as many or as few ship board things as I wish or to just lay in the sun all day if I want to!! Being on a big cruise ship is so exciting! And I agree with Sodey -- I like the fact that we see different places on one trip and only unpack and pack ONCE! I also LOVE to cruise in the winter time -- it is GREAT to get away from WISCONSIN in WINTER!!! :dizzy

The top reason I cruise is because it is the most relaxing way I have ever traveled. All the other things are just a bonus.

All it took was one cruise and now I'm just plain addicted.
It doesn't matter what ship or where it goes as long as i'm on it. :dance

All of the above:
It is the most economical vacation with limited planning needed. Once we choose our dates, ship and itinerary, I compare pricing and get the very best deal that we can afford. Everything on board ship is top notch; food, service, ports, entertainment, cabin amenities and the ability to do nothing at all if you wish. It is your choice. We enjoy meeting new people from all over the world and sharing some fun times.

I would have to say it is the ship. Once I am aboard and realize that I am there, and will be there, I can really relax. There is no thought of checking out the net, poking around the garage, maintaining the pool, pulling weeds etc. etc. Not that I have that much to do, it's just knowing I can't do any of it that unwinds me. I don't feel I have explained this feeling, and maybe I can't. I just find myself in a state of mind that I don't get to in very many places.

I cruise because I'm addicted to cruising! Why else would I be on this board...(first time, by the way!) I love being on the ocean far away from everything, I love the breezes, I love the Caribbean music, I love the food, I love the islands, I love the food, I love the excursions, and I love the food. Oh! Did mention I love the food?

Cruising = Heaven

We have a group of 11 that started cruising together 4 years ago, and while we do sit down and look at the port options, I go because I just love to be cruising -- don't really care where it's going. If they don't have cruising in heaven, I may not go!

With that group of 11 on the Conquest this November, I have the perfect shore excursion in Jamaica at very low cost. If you want more info, e-mail me at:

Cathy and I cancel each other out. I cruise for the ports of call, She cruises more for the ship experience. Since you get both on a cruise it's the perfect vacation for us.

I cruise for the fun and relaxation.

I think it is great price to be able to see 3 or more ports depending on the length. I went on my first cruise and then did not do another for about 10 years. Now, I am just plain addicted to cruising.

I cruise because I love to be waited on and treated like royalty! I don't care if ports get substituted for reasons beyond our control.

I love getting onboard after checking in, exploring the ship, watching us leave port, sitting out on deck and watching the water, feeling the sea and the salt, watching the sunsets and sunrises.

I love all the good food, and fun things to do, and I really really love relaxing, having the door to my balcony opened at bedtime and listening to the waves as we cut through the sea. I love the gentle rocking as the ship slips through the sea at night...it's like being rocked to sleep.

I love having my breakfast delivered to my verandah table and having a nice leisurely meal while we dock in the morning.

I love meeting new people and passing them on the streets of the ports we visit and that feeling of comaradery when we recognize fellow passengers.

I love going into the ports and going to places where tourists don't go so I can get to see how the locals live and get a feeling of their island, their culture and their lifestyles and history of where they live.
