Why only selected ships to Cozamel?

The possible reasons that Carnival is gradually returning to Cozamel are numerous and worrisome. Have they cancelled some ships plans to dock while permitting others because the island is not ready to receive that many people? Is this an economic accommodation to the merchants on the island at the expense of the enjoyment of the passengers? Does it have to do with not being able to use the dock and therefore not being able to "tender" huge numbers of people to the island?
The least likely possibility is the only positive scenario for me,ie. the island is perfectly fine and totally restored and fewer cruisers going there the day I go means the luxury of being less crowded on the island. How badly can a port be damaged and the cruise line will still wink, turn their head and say "Let them eat cake"? Does this scenario sound like a credit for my next cruise in the making?

I can not imagine tendering in 8-9-10 ships daily WOW the lines....(LOL

Being in Grand Cayman with a few ships and the tendering process out is great...but waiting in that line coming back.. whew.

Is your ship going there?? I am wondering what ships won the lottery to go to cozumel.

I would think the smaller sized ships were the lotter ywinners as the Mega ships would create a REAL fiasco. Personally I would rather give them a bit more time to recoup from the devastation they dealt with. :thumb

If you read the latest from Carnival on the changes the Conquest is not listed so I take it that I will be going to Cozumel on my 12/4 sailing. I was hoping to not go there because of the mess still left but looks like I was a lottery winner and don't want to be. This is our first cruise don't get me wrong I am greatful to be able to go at all, just wish they would have waited on going back to Cozumel. Will let you all know how it was when we get back.

Any thoughts on why they would send my 11/19 Glory cruise to Cozamel and then redirect subsequent cruises? You would think that when they're ready all cruises after the first one that docks there would also go. Could it be the cruise lines alternated cancelling ships there and on 11/19 it was carnival's turn?

Someone suggested a large number of people going ashore might be a real problem for a tender operation. Is it better to stay in your room and wait for the lines of people trying to get ashore to thin out?Are we talking hours to unload a ship after it docks? How about getting back on? Will the ship likely be leaving its ports late, trying to get everyone back on? Are people's excursions in jeopardy because of the delay? Any port in a storm......

Defender: Tendering operations work thusly:
...first tenders [generally 30-45 minutes after "dropping anchor"] are for people on CCL tours
...then "tender tickets" sare available on a first come-first served basis for people on independent tours//desiring to get off early
...about 2-3 hours after arrival, "open tendering" begins. no need for a ticket.

Size of the tender is unknown. Usually 75-100 pax. In the morning and afternoon, they may arrive/depart every 7-10 minutes. Less often midday

Getting off the ship is not the problem. at least you have air conditioning to do the waiting in. Its coming back and standing in line to get the tender to take you tot he ship thats gonna be the problem.

Well,
My long-awaited first cruise is history. Cozamel must be a shell of it's former self. Trees down and bent everywhere. Buildings crumbled on every street. There were still plenty of shops and lots of things to buy and the water was beautiful. They need to work a little faster on the rebuilding instead of just getting in more cruise ship guests and selling them things. Went to paradise Beach and family had a good time. Would like to return when everything is back to normal.
