wildlife quest vs. whale watching

We had originally prereserved the Mendenhall Glacier bus tour in the a.m. and then the Evening Whale Watching tour. I was a little disappointed as we would not have much time to see the town of Juneau. There is a shore excursion called "Mendenhall Glacier and Wildlife Quest". According to the description you are quaranteed to see at least one whale on this tour. Has anyone ever taken this tour and could give a review? Thank you for any info you can provide. We would then also have time to explore Juneau. Lynn

Are you sure they say they guarantee to see one whale? Most guarantee you will see sea wildlife not a specific type of wildlife.

The truth is you can catch a bus from town for about $10 or $12 to go out to the Mendenhall Glacier. It is about a 15 or 20 minute drive depending on traffic. Most sea wildlife tours head out from a few minutes down the road from the Mendenhall Glacier.

If you signed up for an a.m. Glacier tour and a night whale watch I see no reason why you do not have time to tour the town of Juneau. The town is really not that big and most of the things to see in town are very close together.

Yes, they do guarantee a whale sighting and other wildlife or you receive a 100 dollar refund. We are booked for this excursion and leaving in 12 days. will let you know if it is worth it!

We just returned on June 6th and did the whale watching/wildlife quest. We were guaranteed we would see a whale or receive $100 back. We saw a mother and calf, but no breeching or tails. We also saw sea lions and bald eagles. On the way to the whale watching boat, we stopped at a beautiful site to see Mendenhall Glacier. On the trip we also got to see Eagle and Herbert Glaciers from a distance.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my questions. I really appreciate it. Lynn
Nerah - Did you enjoy this shore excursion? It doesn't sound like you saw that much wildlife. The view of the glaciers sounded great.
Kana - I really would appreciate your opinion when you return from your trip. I hope you have a wonderful trip and that you see a lot of wildlife.
PEB - I don't have the exact times in front of me right now but I know that if we book the Mendenhall Glacier Trip and then the Evening Whale Watching excursion we had little time in Juneau. The Mendenhall Glacier/Wildlife excursion seemed like it combined both trips together leaving us more time to see Juneau.

We did enjoy it....once. I do not think I would do it again because it is so "iffy" as to what you will see. The scenery was beautiful. The boat we were on was nice and not overcrowded and the crew was very informative. As for the whales, there just wasn't much action during our particular trip. As with all nature sighting trips, you just take a chance and make the most of it. :)

You can grab a city bus right infornt of the ships for $1.50 and "do juneau" in about two hours. There is a stop near (one mile Walk) the Mendenhall Glacier.

Hi,
We took the joint 'Wildlife Quest and Mendenhall Glacier' excursion in June, and saw a number of humpback whales, seals, sea lions and eagles. A wonderful experience to see the whales. Visited the Glacier on the return journey. I have some photos at http://www.bondpix.com/Alaska_Cruise.htm and will be adding more photos and reports soon.

Just got back two weeks ago

Yes! You will see Whales and lots of them. We even had the pleasure of seeing a mother and baby. The baby breached and I caught it all on video!
