will never sail Carnival again

My son in law booked a cruise to nowhere for him and my daughter to "patch" things up between them. Unfortunately things didn't work out and my daughter has since left him. My husband and I are past guests of Carnival so I called them to see if we could take their place. I was told that only 1 name could be changed according to their policy. I read their policy and it states that it is up to Carnivals discretion what to honor or not. I was told that my son in law will lose his $$$ for the suite he booked and there was nothing that could be done. I am extremely disappointed and we will never sail with them again. You would think with the economy the way it is that Carnival would try to KEEP their customers not LOSE them. But, I guess I was wrong.

You are upset with Carnival because it enforced a stated rule? Your son-in-law can still go, it is his choice not to.

ALL cruiselines have a policy that a cancellation after final payment date will forfeit a % of their deposit, the amount depends on how close to the sailing date. In the case of cancellation by one passenger, but not the other, the cancellation penalty only affects the canceling passenger. In this situation, another passenger can be substituted for the original passenger for a nominal fee. If both passengers cancel, no substitutes are allowed, period. Guess you won't be able to cruise again on ANY cruiseline.

This is a hard and fast rule with all cruise lines. One passenger in the booking must remain the same from beginning to end. Despite the fact that it says that it is at the cruise line's discretion, in all my years in the business I have never seen it changed, regardless of the reason. Taking it out on Carnival might make the OP feel better but I can guarantee they would have gotten the same answer from any cruise line.

I sympathise with the OP's position, it doesn't seem fair. Having said that, there is actually a very good reason for the policy and it is not the cruise line being greedy, at least not this time.

Those of us who sell cruises are trained professionals and we are bound to certain rules and legal requirements. The agencies we work for are licenced and insured. We must make sure the person purchasing the cruise is aware of the cruise lines' terms and conditions, citizenship documentation requirements, ship, sail date, itinerary, age requirements, embarkation procedures, pre-registration and so much more. It is a fun job to be sure but one that comes with a great deal of responsibility.

If all names in a booking could be changed, it would open the door to anyone who decided, by necessity or otherwise, that they could not go n their cruse to sell it to someone else without disclosing any of the important information to the person purchasing the cruise. I know it may sound far-fetched to some but I guarantee you that if the rule were not in place, you'd see unwanted cruises on E-bay with no regulation on disclosure and that is a scary thought.

I'll bet the CEO's daughter could get the rule changed for her cruise.

You can buy a cruise ship on E-bay. Why not a cruise?

Disclaimer - I'm just having fun. In other words, I'm kidding.

See....that's what NCL should've done with the Norway. ;)

You might try calling and speaking to another PVP at Carnival. If it's up to the discretion of Carnival you might get someone that would be more willing to work with you.

=yeah

A few years ago I had a call from a guy booked on his honeymoon cruise. No insurance, they broke up, wedding called off he was distraught. I suggested that he find someone else to go with him (thinking maybe a buddy). Two days later he called with a name change....new girlfriend.

While I certainly understand why you would want Carnival to break their rule (the same rule that every other cruise line has by the way)....to say you are never cruising with Carnival again for that reason is ridiculous.

This has been a set rule for as long as we have been cruising with them and there is a very valid reason for it.

But to "swear off" a cruise line because they actually enforce their rules....well...makes you look foolish.

I really love how when a company enforces a stated policy, these so-called adults through a fit like little children. I appreciate that it must be a stressful time for the family with a break up like this. But to throw a tantrum because a company is enforcing a policy is purely infantile.
