Well, I don't think I am ever going to book a cruise during Hurricane season again. This is just to much to deal with. First we get moved from New Orleans to Galveston, now another storm threatens this Vacation. I guess we will have to wait and see where WILMA goes.

I agree, we are supposed to cruise this Sunday and Iam getting a little anxious with this new hurricane, what happens if we are able to go but i,e,are only get five days instead or seven I have heard of that happening, which cruise are you on.

We are going on the Conquest this weekend. They posibly could leave a day or 2 later and just give us a Credit on our account, But it's still to early to tell if this storm will be a problem or not.

Crazy isn't it? We leave on Sunday on the Conquest as well. We are flying in on Saturday.
Maybe it is time to say uncle~!

We are also flying in on Saturday Morning. Hope this thing moves out of the way soon, but forcast seem to say it will be sitting in the middle of the gulf by Saturday. We also have a cruise booked for next July on Disney, that will be the LAST crusie I ever book during Hurricane season.

If you check the 5 day forecast computer models, Wilma is expected to take a sharp turn to the east just north of Cuba. There is a strong cold front and following high pressure predicted to pass through the southeastern gulf states Friday or Saturday. This system is expected to push the storm into the Florida west coast. If this forecast holds up, I think all of you sailing from Galveston are in the clear.

The Carnival Web site just updated it's weather section, and now the Conquest cruise thats out now has been changed to Costa Maya (Tue.), Cozumel (Wed.) and Progreso (Thur.) . I was affraid it would get stuck behind the storm and not make it back on time, but this schedule will keep it in front of the storm. So we should still sail out on Sunday Oct 23.

Are we getting close to the end of this hurricane season? We sail 11/19. That's the very end of the season right? Have we had any after Thanksgiving that anyone can remember?

I am really glad that I made all my excursions through Carnival. I was debating whether or not to go independent, which I have done in the past. I just had an uneasy feeling after being on the fantasy during hurricane Jeanne.

I hate watching the news....and being glued to the weather. My stomach gets all tied up in knots. Sheez.......I know it is only a trip but I Wannnnnnnnna Gooooooooo. Okay my whining spell is over (for now)

On a seven day cruise......when are the formal nights?

Also, I have never been to the Captain's dinner (after four cruises!) I was hoping there would be music for dancing........which I had seen on the replay tapes.

I have never sailed during hurricane season because I've always been afraid we'd have to cancel or have bad weather. We always cruise in March or April. I'm just curious, is it a lot cheaper to go during hurricane season? Do you feel it's worth it at this time? I would love to go to the Caribbean during the summer months when my daughter's out of school but don't book at this time because of the hurricanes.

The honeymoon cruise we booked for our daughter and son-in-law was shortened to 5 days from 7 on the Conquest because of Rita. They made the best of it, with only two stops (Progresso and Cozumel) and some bad weather on the return leg.

We just got back from the Conquest this past Sunday, and were blessed with great weather the whole way and no glitches. We had a great time, but wished we could have traded places with the honeymooners.

Assuming you get to sail at all, whether it is the full 7 days or a shortened trip or different ports of call than planned, you just have to have the attitude that you'll make the best of whatever you get. It's a vacation, but it's also an adventure. Carnival took good care of my kids, keeping them out of harm's way and yet still managed to show them a good time.

Babushka, I have sailed during hurricane season several times and never had a problem; it's a roll of the dice! And yes, you can save a lot of money if you book during peak hurricane season (August - October).

Cruzman, Thanks for the info. I will have to keep that in mind for summer vacation for my daughter. We have done the Ensenada cruise from Long Beach for summer vacation but I really don't like Ensenada at all. It was just fun being with my kids and being on a ship. But we really would like to go to the Caribbean...maybe I'll have to plan something for next year. Thanks!

What options does the criuseline consider if one of their ports experiences substantial damage? Is it possible damage from a hurricane now could cancel that place as a port for a Thanksgiving week cruise? do they just pick another port or do you have the right to cancel or wait for another cruise week?

Just got back today after sailing on the Carnival Elation from Galveston. We were supposed to go to Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, but because of Wilma, we went to Progresso and Veracruz. We didn't care much for the ports we ended up at but still had a blast. They practically had to pry us off the ship with a crowbar. Our table mates were pretty bummed though. Two couples were on their honeymoons and weren't happy with the changes, and the other had booked their shore excursions independently. I don't know if they got their money back, they changed tables after the first night.

We probably won't sail in hurricane season again, since dbf is considering taking a teaching position. But I would go anytime they let me on the boat, hurricane or not!

For pricing, I have found the end of November to right before Xmas to be the best rates. I know I will not book during Hurricane season either, just added stress.

AS far as independent excursions go... you can find them that will not charge you if the ship doesn't dock...we just got back 2 weeks ago from the Conquest from Galveston..7 day WEstern Carribean & both independent excursions we booked would not have charged us if we didn't show... Barrett Adventures in Montego Bay & Captain Marvin's at Grand Cayman...I wouldn't have changed it for the world. Don't shy away from independent excursions just because of the possibility of a hurricane. I HIGHLY recommend both places if you do the Western Caribbean.

I just hope Cozumel isn't too badly damaged..anyone heard extent of damages there & in Cayman yet?
