Wine in dining rooms

I understand it is pretty simple to bring your own wine on board. However, can you bring this wine to the dining roomf or dinner and pay the $10.00 corkage fee, or this is not really allowed and frowned upon?

I did read somewhere that you can and whatever is left over, your waiter places your name and cabin number on the bottle to consume the following day..........is this true? Thank You.

Yes, this is true. We have our cabin steward take the bottle to the dining room each day (yes, they are rewarded with extra tip). I always put labels with our name, cabin # , early or late seating and I leave a blank space for the table # to be filled in....on my bottles that I bring aboard and they will save an unfished bottle until the next night.

There is a charge of $10 corkage per bottle .... but if it is a wine that is on the wine list, they will not charge you. Also, at the discretion of the waiter, the charge may be overlooked. If this happens.....they get an extra tip on the last night.

So is that the only way to bring the wine to the dining room is through the cabin steward or you can also walk into the dining room with your bottle?

VJJ,

Uncork the bottle in your cabin and take the wine yourself into the dining. If they do not uncork it for you, they are not supposed to charge you a corkage fee. The wait staffs are usually pretty accomodating regarding this. We've done this on our last 4 cruises on 4 different Princess ships and never had a problem.

Did you buy the wine at home and have it shipped or buy it at your embarkation port? We are thinking of doing this on the Golden (May 2nd-Yeah!).

We buy it at your embarkation port if we have to fly ...... if we are leaving from a FL port, we buy it at home.

Since we are flying, where can you buy at the Fort Lauderdale terminal? Or do you have to make a stop with your cab coming from the airport?

VJJ,

There is a Publix Market on 17th Street. Maybe a 10 minute walk from the terminal. If you have some favorite wines from home, pack them in bubble wrap, and bring them with you in your carryon. If you're not that particular and adventurous to try something different, the Publix Mkt. has a huge selection of wines to choose from. Ideally, if you are going to stay in FLL the night before, try to stay along 17th St. near the port.

Is there any way of knowing what is on certain ships wine list? Does it change frequently?

CL@SS cruise tip ---- avoid Rick & Jenny when one of them wants to go for a ten minute walk. ;)
mildavis - check some reviews as sometime folks will include scanned wine lists. I doubt they change too much as they sell pretty much what people want to buy. I know Princess & Celebrity both have a nice selection.

Any suggestions for getting wine in puerto rico prior to boarding. Leaving on May 2.

Everything is xray scanned (like at airport) now, so it's pretty much up to the person looking at the screen if they let it through. Best bet is to put it in your checked in luggage.
