Wine on the Spirit?

On RCCL we thought we had to smuggle wine on board our 4 dayer. It wasn't a problem.

On CELEBRITY we didn't even hide it. The guys saw it, smiled, and told us to have a great party!

I read on NCL that we couldn't bring wine on board. I know they all say that. Anyone ever have a problem???

We are going on a 2 night Cruise to Nowhere on the Spirit out of San Francisco...

NCL reallly does check the baggage for liquor.
If they find it, they will hold your baggage until you report to security.
You may or may not sucessfully smuggle the bottle of wine aboard.

But why take the chance? Call NCL in advance and pay a small $15 per bottle corkage fee.
If you have a special vintage year of a very expensive wine, $15 is a small amount to pay to bring your wine aboard.
If it's a cheap bottle of wine, you're much better off buying your wine aboard from NCL.

Here's NCL's posted wine list: http://www.ncl.com/more/wine_list.htm
Their prices range fro $18 to $58, with a vast majority less than $25.
They just aren't that expensive.

As Don sail, you don't have to smuggle it on but you do have to pay a corkage fee. I really think, at least our experience, if you are just bringing 1 or 2 bottles you many not even get stuck with the $15 fee, but more than that you will. You are right about the other lines not really caring, but that too may change in the very near future. It just takes one line to start something. Good expample, until just a few months ago you could buy liquor in the gift shop on RCI ships and pay a service fee to take it back to your cabin: NO more. If you buy it, it will stay in the shop until the night before the end of the cruise.

We will buy wine and frozen thingees on board, that is not a problem. But at the end of the day, when we are looking at the stars from our balcony, we do enjoy a glass of port and a splash of scotch. That's all we wanted to bring on board.

When we took our first cruise on RCL last year, you couldn't take wine back to your room for any charge. It had to wait until the last night, when they brought it to your room. At least on the Monarch.

You can call NCL to "set up a bar" in your stateroom. It's slightly expensive, but you can do it and enjoy the sights from your balcony in privacy if you wish.
NCL's bar setup phone number is: 1-866-625-1159
Prices for gin are either $40 or $55 depending on the brand. I think these prices are typical of those charged from what other people have posted. There is also a $3 set-up fee. All prices I have quoted were for 1 litre bottle.

The real question is, why sail on NCL?

LOL! Yeah, that is the question. Someone told me that the prices are low low low, and that the idea is to get on board, and then go to the specialty restaurants. We did manage to get some mini-bottles on board in our toiletries bag, so that worked. But I'm not sure I would cruise on NCL again. But then again, it's a cruise!
