We are on the 8/8 sailing of the Star Princess and now, as I've begun to enter the 21st century re: technology (or at least I think I have) and have a new laptop with wireless connectivity, I would like to know if anyone knows if there is wi-fi access on the Star.
It would be wonderful not having to pay the outrageous internet access fees while onboard!

You'll still have to pay the same fees... The wireless connection is via the same Princess portal as their regular internet access, and that's where the charges are incurred.

When it comes to collecting money from passengers... they may be crazy but they're not stupid ;)

After six cruises you'll be Platinum... then it's all free.

This is our first cruise on Princes (Golden, 7/11, S. Caribbean, Baja deck balcony). So we've got 5 more til Patinum. Anyone know the charges for WiFi access? Is it available anywhere on the ship?

Thanks!

The internet is free when you are platinum as stated above. Actually it is after the 5th cruise or the start of the 6th cruise you change from gold to platinum. You receive a platinum card on the last day of your 5th cruise.

As I remember our earlier discussion of this topic, WiFi is only available in the Atrium. On the Star last October I saw a guy on his personal laptop in the atrium.

Once we got a cabin, on the Dawn, just outside the atrium and the Princess laptop would not work, just a few feet away.

Someone else knows the specific cost, we use the Platinum privilege.

I don't believe the Star Princess allows for people to bring their own laptops to connect to the WIFI network. It is possible the person was using a Princess loaned laptop on a closed wireless network.

The Island Princess, Diamond and Sapphire Princess do allow for wireless access for a charge. Not sure of the Cairbbean Princess. I don't think the other ships have it.

:wave As of October 2003 sailing on the Island Princess the regular internet access fee was 35 cents per minute. I must say i truly enjoyed my platinium status which allowed me to use it all i wanted for free. I don't know if the fee has increased since then or not. Perhaps someone else may have that information. =COOL =bigwave =bigwave

Anyone know if the Golden Princess has wifi for your personal laptop?

Thanks!

Only the Sapphire, Diamond and Island Princess have open WIFI. I am not sure of the Caribbean Princess. The Golden's WIFI is closed, limited to Princess laptops only.
