If the price is the same, which do y'all think would be better for two nights pre-cruise......the Wyndham Old San Juan or the Wyndham Condado San Juan??? I like the idea of being by the Old Town so that we can walk around and explore things. But, I also like the idea of having more of a resort setting at the Condado. What do y'all think? Thanks!!!

Hey Cruise Cutie :)

Well, we went back and forth and FINALLY decided on the Wyndham Old San Juan. The main reason was because we're wanting to mainly check out Old Town. This way we can walk around from our hotel. I figure we'll have plenty of beach opportunities on the cruise.

Plus, I believe we stayed at what is now the Wyndham Condado in 1996 before it was a Wyndham It was gorgeous, but LOUD. There were folks cruising down the strip and honking their horns WAYYYYYY into the night. We're doing this trip with my parents and while they'e FUN, I know they'd be irked if they didn't get any sleep from all the folks partying. I don't think all of the Wyndham Condado is that way, our room just happened to face the strip.

Can't wait to gooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

:wave..hey Melissa..enjoy your swank place...and I do mean Oh lala.check out the roof top pool looking out to the pier..Man I love that pool..but it is so windy..almost had my new hat sail off over the balcony..Took me 3 cruises and a Hundred stores to find a hat that did not make me look like "Madeleine" the French girl in the story book and fit me..I have such a small head to try to wear hats.I have long black hair and get burned on my head and was warned to start wearing hats or else by my MD.bosses..... and the D@#N thing about flew away at the pool!!...:grin...there are some nice places nearby..just be careful at night..sigh..My DH is a BIG guy so I felt safe....we wanted to walk around there at night..just be careful ,use common sense..and enjoy!..=hugs,Joanne

Hey Joanne!

Isn't that just the way things go.......you search and search for a hat, find the perfect one, then POOF........it's gone! I'll be sure to hang onto my hat at the pool! I tend to lose sunvisors/hats on catamarans.........not to mention a pair of shades or two. haha

Thanks for the heads up about walking at night. We're pretty saavy travelers, so I'm not too worried. I always use common sense and pay attention to my surroundings. Knock-on-wood, I've never had any problems that I couldn't handle. It probably helps that my hubby's a big guy, too!

Do you remember any of the places near the hotel that you went to? I've heard there's a Senior Frog's nearby so we won't be hurtin' for margaritas! haha

Who knows, I'm still going to watch the prices and could change our reservation. Taxes alone are $33 a night.......just nuts! We have my parents going on this trip, so I was hoping we could score with their AARP bennies, only the Wyndham Old San Juan didn't have any of their AARP rooms available. But, that could change. I'm just glad we have something set and if we end up finding a better deal, we can cancel without a penalty.

I can't wait till this trip!!!!! P.S. did you ever find a replacement for your perfect fit hat??? Hope so!

Oh it did not quite sail away..almost did..and for what Mark had paid I would have about stroked..:grin..it was our Honeymoon cruise and our Best man and Matron of Honor..Gary and Marie flew down and stayed on the same floor.at the hotel and on the same hallway on board ship as us..we were in the little boutique shops and stumbled on these really chi chi..(expensive)..hats..so the DH's bought them we both have to hunt to find hats to fit us and look normal..not like we are playing dress-up with Mom's stuff..:lol...we went to a local restaurant a couple strreets away..had a ton of sports memorbilia as a decoration..quite small..and man was the food good!!!..that was 4 years ago so=shrug, cannot remember the name.wish I could..:help..getting older and brain cells melting!!..:grin.....Have fun..Joanne

Wyndham in OSJ is nice ( we were upgraded to a suite!) But watch the prices in the restaurant there! Toast was $9 and lunch buffet was $25pp! Senor Frogs is right behind it. Also a restaurant right across from it. Closeby is a subway and Micky D's. Met a lady in the elevator who had KFC but had taken a cab and had no idea where she got it! Also we stayed post-cruise and I wanted to get pics of the ships leaving. At 10:20pm a hotel guy chased me out of the pool area so I went to the restaurant balcony to take pics.

Hey Joanne :)

Well I'm glad you didn't loose your hat from the chi chi boutique! I'll remember to hold onto my hat/visor at that pool! Where was the boutique? In San Juan?

Becky, I've heard that about the cost of food at the hotel restaurants. We stayed in what is now the Wyndham Condado San Juan in '96 and I remember paying a fortune for breakfast. I'm sure we're going to want to venture out and try some of the local places. I'd have to be broke or really sick of the local food to break down and do KFC or Micky D's. haha I'm on vacation.......I don't want what I can have at home, but that's just me. :) Bet ya got some good pics from the pool and restaurant balcony. Some hotel guy chased you out? What, do they close it down early or something? Bummer.

:wave Hey Melissa..there was a strip of very expensive shops/ boutiques and some lesser cost stores across the street from Wyndham Old San Juan, and a liquor store and had post cards etc there..and some restaurants..they were not as expensive as in the hotel..Wow that was big price menu food$$..prices scared the #$%^ out of me..we like to dine out but they were NUTS for that amount for us to pay!!!.so we walked a few streets down and found the ones we dined at...found the hats at the boutique row right next to the hotels..have fun!!..enjoy it all..:daisy..Joanne

Hello all!
What else is in the area of the Wyndham Old San Juan? A McDonalds, maybe? How about a grocery store? I won't pay the high prices for food and want to be prepared! Thanks everybody!
