X just put out a press release saying that they are withdrawing from the Australia / New Zealand
market, and will be canceling existing bookings on Millie after Sept and Oct cruises. The release
does not say where Millie will be repositioned, but it does give affected reservation holders some
options for re-booking with credits.

I'm sure part of it must be the economy, but I can't see how they think they can sustain enough
Caribbean bookings during the North American winter months to fill Millie and the two new ships,
in addition to those already in the Caribbean. They will need to find + / - 3,000 new doubles every
week to make it all work. The same economy will make that tough, if not impossible.

We'll see.

yes but the itinerary's will be so much shorter that they won't have to spend as much for fuel !! The economy is the only reason I can see for the canceled cruises.
We have three pairs of friends that had no problem getting aft cabins when they booked a while back for a downunder cruise and as you know they are generally the first to go. Simply not enough bookings I think.
But it will indeed prove interesting as the Solstice and other new ships hit the fleet and the battle starts for pax in the Caribbean.

I would love a year from now - to see how much their revenues drop off. Of course, I'd have to work in RCCL's Miami headquarters to know that. I really think some poor choices have been made (and no Bob, not just the smoking - ha). I think the cutting back on quality, while expanding the fleet to "new age" cruising, and putting the "corporate" feel we've talked so much about into the experience, during this time might prove to be a loss for the shareholders down the road. I think someone didn't consider the Baby Boomers have all the money, not the "new age" cruisers. I think they should have continued to cater to that demographic for another decade. Time will tell. =huh
