Yoga / Pilates on Princess

Hello all. First of all, I'd like to say how much I enjoy this forum. I have never cruised before, and will be leaving this Sat (5/22/04) for an Alaskan cruise (out of Vancouver) to celebrate our 20th wedding anniv. My question is, does anyone have any info on the fitness program that Princess offers? I thought that I remembered reading somewhere that they charge extra for the yoga and/or pilates classes. I'd appreciate any info. Thanks!

Hi,
What ship are you on, where and when is the curise. Have you contacted the cruise line directly? You can go to the web site for princess too. I think they only have exercise machines but no Yoga. Check it out.

Hello Sea Trekker,
We're on the Coral Princess, sailing from Vancouer to Whittier. Leaving Sat 5/22/04. Yes, I've checked the Princess site and didn't see anything specific. Their "Preparing for your cruise" book mentions pilates classes. And, I've not necessarily found the Princess CSA's too helpful. I've found more info on this forum.

We just got off the Coral on Saturday (Alaska!). They do offer both Yoga and Pilates, and if I remember correclty, they were $20 classes. DON'T HOLD ME TO THAT! I'll check the Patters when I get home.

To be honest, I didn't even consider the exercise classes ... I had dieted for two months (and lost 20 lbs) in preparation for our cruise, and there was NO way I was dieting through it!!!

On the Star Princess they had a free introductory class for yoga and pilates, and there was a charge after that for additional classes.

On the Coral Princess last September my wife took both Pilates [Swiss Ball] and Yoga on alternate days. The fee was $10 a class. You had to sign up in advance [on board] as they had a maximum number for each class. They did seem to fill the classes. She really enjoyed the classes and I went on the treadmill while she was in there. The only problem after getting home [she became a Pilates addict] was that she can't find any Swiss Ball Pilates classes only the regular kind. Enjoy! The classes were early enough that they didn't interfere with going ashore [except for passing through the Panama Canal - we were out on deck all day that day].

Thomas,

Thank you for the price information and for the recommendation to sign up early for the classes. I may try one of each. It seems wrong that Princess charges extra for these classes, but I guess that they'll do it as long as the demand is there.

Lala,

We felt the same way about the extra charge but affer taking the first class my wife said it was well worth the $10. The classes were kept quite small, there was a lot of individual attention and the instructors were awesome. Hope this helps and good exercise. We are 'gym rats' in our 60's and had a great time.

Just off of the Diamond Princess (Alaska) and some specialty classes are $10 each. We visited the Exercise area the 1st day, and they offered a special of $30 per person to take classes, have a body fat analysis, and use a relaxation capsule machine. Even if you don't take additional classes, the body fat anaylsis and the relaxation capsule are worth the $30 per person. They also had Spin Cycling classes, and one day they placed the cyles out on the deck. That was a Blast!!

Someone has started this new site for Princess Patters and Menus. It is far from complete but I found these prices listed for a recent cruise on the Diamond. I expect they would be much the same on other ships.

Pilates.....$10
Intro to B.O.S.U.....$10 (I admit it, I don't even know what BOSU is)
Pulse Group cycling....$10
Pathway to Yoga.....$10

Hope this helps!
