Yuck! Dirty bed sheets

I read somewhere that Carnival doesn't change the bed sheets after each cruise. Instead, they use some kind of spray on it. Can someone confirm that? If it is true I will definitely bring my own sheets and pillow cases 'cause that's just plain gross.

They change them every cruise. They change them with the cabin next door down and so on and so on until they've been used a hundred times and then they get washed and get recycled with the first cabin in the line. So only one cabin gets newly washed sheets each cruise but they all get changed.

My sheets were fully changed EVERYDAY, my towels were changed AT LEAST TWICE a day.

I am not sure what you are asking or suggesting.

We got clean sheet each and everyday. But, I am sure they are the same sheets they used last week and the week before when someone else was in my room. This is the same as what they do in a hotel.

What is the question here?

cruisegary,

I came across a online cruise ship review the other day. It was a very bad review about Ecstasy. The author mentioned tons of bad things about his last cruise. One of them was that Carnival didn't change the bed sheets in his cabin after the previous cruisers disembarked. He believed the cabin steward just sprayed something on the sheets to mask the smell. Don't know if it's true. Hope I have bookmarked that page so you can check it out yourself.

Sodey,

LMAO. Good one.

If it was done, I doubt it was intentional. I've never had it happen to me. When I get into a stateroom, I check everything to make sure nothing has been overlooked. If there was something that should have been done that wasn't, I call the hotel staff and have them come and fix it. They send someone as soon as possible and sometimes it may take a few minutes because the stewards are getting the luggage to the rooms.

There are times, and the cruise lines tell you, that if boarding time is at 2pm and you get on at 11 to not go to your room until 2 because it may not have been made up yet from the previous cruise.

There is one thing I ALWAYS do whether it's on a ship or in a hotel and that is to check the bedspreads and blankets and if there is any dirt on either of them, I have them replaced with clean ones. ONE thing I can't stand is sitting on a bed that someone else has slept in and got their dirty shoes or worse on the spreads and blankets. I always take a can of Lysol too, and spray EVERYTHING my face will touch in the room...including the phone and remote control.

I can be pretty freaky about that stuff. Also, make sure you wash your hands after you go up and down the stairways after holding onto the bannisters. No sense leaving your cruise and going home with the start of catching a bad cold.

As mentioned by another poster, they changed our sheets every day. Sure do not know what happened on the last day. The above posting to check is a good idea.

SODEY!

I am cracking up over your answer -- don't give the hotel & cruise industry any ideas now! (wink, wink!)

I have to agree with others, we saw them change our sheets too.

I'm not sure it was done everyday - but we did see them.

Come on now -- those cruise employees work their tails off -- you think they'd make their lives easier by letting them just "disinfectant spray" the sheets! : )

Good point luv2cruise2. Hand washing is extremely important on a cruise. Everyone should wash their hands often to prevent the spread of virus's and colds germs. Lysol is a must also. Doing these 2 important things could make the difference of a real good time versus a REALLY bad time !!

If something freaky did happen and the sheets were dirty all you would have to do was ask your steward to change them and he would right away. They are very very willing to please and will do anything you ask. But for the record our sheets and towels were changed daily. I was VERY impressed with the cleansiness on the Conquest two weeks ago.

Take Purell with you. It comes in small bottles. Wipe it on your hands and you're germ free. Not sure if you want to carry an aerosol like Lysol on an airplane.

When I was on the Triumph, you sheets were changed daily. This was in 02 but I do think we had the option of daily or less often. Which when it's me sleeping on them that's ok. I don't change my sheets at home every day. Our room was very clean, NO COMPLAINTS.
We carried the Purell, with us everywhere. If you check the isle at Wal-Mart that has all the travel size stuff, out Wal-Mart has the small Purell bottles with a little cover on them with a hook on them. They are great to hang on your beach bag, fanny pack, purse, our you can easily drop them in a pocket. They are 50cents at WM. I'm stocking up. Will have a larger bottle in the room to do refills.

We always had clean sheets, and our towels were changed daily. The only thing I needed to ask for was a little life jacket for my daughter before the life boat drill.

Thank you all for your responses. I feel so much better now. I am the first to admit that I am a borderline clean freak. Now I don't have to pack my own bed sheets and pillow cases. More room for shopping..............Hippie Yay!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm...perhaps they were spraying fabreze or something to "mask" cigarette smoke???? Just a thought.

Like the others, our sheets have always been clean. I'd say whoever made the original post was in error anyhow as I can't imagine Carnival requesting that the sheets on the entire ship not be changed. If it did happen it sounds more to me like a lazy room steward who doesn't care whether he's paid or not.

Of course we all know that there are some people who post on the boards and make things sound worse than they are for their own reasons.

I've seen some downright lies posted on the boards by people who want to promote one cruise line over another or just to cause trouble.

Don't believe everything you read on the boards and don't believe that all posters are as honest as you are.

One thing I do when I'm first shown my room is to pull out a decent tip for the room steward. Tipping well at the beginning of a cruise (and again at the end) has always
paid off in the form of extra-special service.

I bring out a ten or a twenty (some may think this is a lot, but sometimes it pays off in dividends, especially on longer cruises), as though I'm going to tip the steward, and then I do a quick check of the room to see if everything is in working order (I do this in hotels too). Once, we needed extra pillows and a quilt, and the bath had no shampoo or soap. When the steward saw I was planning on tipping him, he had everything accomplished in about three or four minutes. THEN I tipped him. I was treated like royalty after that.

I do plan on using the tip trick and checking my bedsheets this time, as well.

You have to reach a happy balance with the tipping though. Sometimes over tipping can be as bad as not tipping or under tipping.

If the word gets around that they can get more money by not having the room in the best shape until they receive an extra tip up front, then EVERYONE will have a problem. The service people get together and have their little discussions about how to get more money than recommended too.

Those people might be poor and from 3rd world countries, but they're not stupid.

I was on the Ecstasy. The white sheets are always washed but I doubt that the comforters are.
