1. I see that you have Internet, so go to the HAL site and look.
2. Check the paperwork they mailed to you, it will tell you how many formal nights etc.
3. Call HAL ship services, there number can be found on the HAL site.

We just sailed on the Zaandam the week of 1/18 and there were no theme nights. For packing information, there were 2 formal nights, 1 informal and the rest were casual. We also ate in the alternative restaurant one evening where they requested men wear a jacket. If you want to eat there, make sure you make reservations soon after boarding...it books up quickly! By Sunday, there was a large sign posted at the door saying they were booked for the remainder of the cruise. We loved the ship, the crew, the food...in fact we didn't want to leave when we got back to Pt. Canaveral. Have a great cruise.

Hi Suite Gurl!
Do you remember which nights the formals are? We are on the 3/1 Eastern & want to eat in the alternative restaurant but probably not the formal nights. Any other suggestions/advice would be appreciated!
Thanks...rocks

rocks, the first formal night will be Sunday night, the second will be Thursday night. We sailed on the Zaandam in December and there was a 50's sock hop in the Crow's Nest one evening after dinner. Have fun!

rocks - I see that Cruzman has answered on the formal nights. He also posted a great review of the Zaandam (see Joel Miller 12/14/2002) that is well worth reading if you haven't already. His review helped me alot. If it wasn't for his review, we probably wouldn't have known to make a bee-line to the Marco Polo to get reservations. Since we had early sitting, we wanted to book a later dinner for the night we left St. Maarten (Tuesday) so we weren't so rushed in getting back from port and into dinner. From what I was told that is one of the first nights to go! Hope that helps. Again...have a great cruise....wish I were going again!

Oh by the way, there is or will be a $20 per person charge for the Marco Polo, but if the food is as good as last year, it is more then worth the $20.
We had a great time on the Western Cruise, but do not take the Jeep tour, it is like riding horses on a dude ranch, they put 4 of you in a jeep and there is like 30 jeeps and it is follow the leader. You would be better off renting one for the day and just get a map and 3 friends and save some money and have a great time.

Yep, they will be doing a poolside BBQ on Tuesday evening, 1800-1930 (that's 6 PM to 7:30 PM) after sailing from St. Maarten. We missed it because we had reservations at the Marco Polo.

Hi Caddy,
See ya on board! We, too, are sailing on the 3/01/03 Zaandam. As for your questions, no there are not any themes with this cruise...however, there is a 1.5 million dollar poker tournament onboard that week. We are not participating, but I understand that there are quite a few that have chartered this cruise just for this event. I do not think it will detract from our fun...who knows, I may make a side bet. As for the number of formal nights...there are two, Sunday and Thursday. There is only one informal night and the rest are casual. Hope this helps.
