I took opportunity with a great Verandah Suite offer and will be doing the Back to Back sailings on the Zuiderdam. Mid 40's single (again) professional guy, frequent cruiser and retired CD.

Quiet, go with the flow and good conversation is my focus. Who else is going?

Hey Tampa Mike!!
I too took the great offer on a veranda as well. Will be on the 25th cruise. My 1st long cruise so I am totally obsessed..and unfortunately wishing the summer away here in Ohio. As a Corporate Exec. Chef I am looking forward to the great food and being waited on!! I too am looking for quiet and relaxation. My partner and I are in a BA category but may upgrade to a S or SS for a larger balcony. We shall see. Perhaps we'll bump into each other.

Hello Everyone!!
My DH and I will be on the 9/25 segment of this B2B. We are from San Antonio, TX. We will be on the Upper Verandah, side aft cabin - we too took advantage of the great suite prices and decided to test fate in the Caribbean during what has become, a very active hurricane season.
DH is 53, I'm 49 and both are looking for a relaxing, indulgent cruise vacation. We also do our share of reading and with what I'm told is a super verandah, I for one will be spending a great deal of time there. I'm not a sun worshiper but I certainly love the sea and the sounds. I have heard an array of comments about those corner aft suites - most love them but I read a post recently by a woman that hated her experience with an aft.

Mike - sounds like you had some great exposures to cruising - I would love to get your input and advice.
Have you been on the Zuiderdam previously? We have cruised on Carnival, Celebrity, Commodore, and HAL (although this is our first time on the Z).

Hello all!

I am so excited. We are on looking forward to our first cruise on 9/18. We are celebrating our 10 Yr. Anniversary in Nov., so we decided to treat ourselves to a Carribean voyage...woohoo Margaritaville here we come! :0) We have a verandah cabin.....everyone said they were worth the extra bucks.

I've been reading everything I can on the port cities that we will be visiting. All the excursions sound so fun, it's been hard for us to pick a few. If anyone has any tips or hints, please feel free to contact me at trophygal8@aol.com.

We are mid-thirties, no kids, middle class from East TN. Look forward to sailing with you all in a few weeks!

What aft suite are you in? We will be in S-6158 and I wish I knew more about it.
Have a great cruise!!!

Deb,

We are in S-7133 which is the opposite corner above you!! We are in the starboard corner of deck 7, and yours is in port corner of deck 6. The cabin itself is a little bit smaller than the suites along the side of the ship, but the balcony is absolutely huge!! Plus it wraps around the side of the ship. Both of our balconies are mostly uncovered, with the side wrap-around part being fully covered. That is fine with me though, because I plan on working on my tan!

I can't wait...

Melody,
I've heard horror stories about the aft cabins - dropped everything, smoky aftermath from the funnels (I guess), the verandahs being dirty all the time from this - scares the bejesus out of me.
I'm not a sun lover but I'm not afraid of the sun either (I could use some color :)) - what I'm looking forward to in this cabin is the view and sounds of the sea with the verandah.

From hearing about other cruiser's experiences in aft cabins, I don't really think any of the things you mentioned will be a problem. I have seen recent pictures of aft cabins on the Zuiderdam, and the balcony looked absolutely clean and wonderful!! It is all teak and it has a big round table and four chairs, two more rattan chairs with ottomans and a small table, plus two large chaise lounges with another table between them. The railing is the see-thru smoked glass. Nothing but the wake of the ship and the sea air. Very nice.

So don't worry...there must be a reason why those aft cabins are hard to come by!! They must be great!!

Take care,

Melody

YIPPPPEEEEE!!!!!

I know there are plenty of other people that are suppose to cruise this weekend with many concerns and disappointments and my heart goes out to you all.
This could happen to any of us cruising during hurricane season and I will pray that a doosy brewing off the coast of Africa goes away from the US.

Hi Ya debbiedo,

This is my first sailing on the Vista Class. I am a fan of the S-Class HAL ships and love the Prinsendam. This trip is a getway from the office and project burnout...so I thought the verandah would be a great asset, regardless where the ship goes. And being hurricane season, that flexibility will come in handy!

Sitting tight this weekend as Frances approaches...waiting 2 weeks for my 2 weeks abaord Zuiderdam.

Cheers!

Mike

Oh my goodness! :-(

I've never experienced this type of Hurricane season. We always go on vacation in Sept.! I am so nervous. We were looking forward to our first cruise on the 18th, but it looks like it may not happen. Go away mean Hurricanes, go away!

Prayers for the people of Fla

You will have a wonderful time, don't worry about it being hurricane season - you will be safe onboard, issues will be in reaching port (both ways) if one of those named storms hits Florida.
I head out the week after you - who knows what will be heading out of Africa by then. I'm really looking forward to this particular cruise for a number of reasons but I also understand the hiccups that can happen during hurricane season (my main reason for always purchasing travel insurance).

Don't worry about what "could" happen, concentrate on having a great cruise.
