Windstar’s Promotion Extension and the Cruise Industry’s Use of Perks

Any regular visitors to our site will know that there are many major brands in the cruise industry battling for the attention of holidaymakers.

However, another option that brands can consider is the use of special deals and promotions to entice potential passengers in. Such trends have arguably been in the spotlight since the start of this year, with brands like Windstar Cruises taking that step.

Complimentary benefits

Windstar launched its Wave Season promotion back in January and originally anticipated that it would run until the end of February. However, as the industry website Travel Pulse explains, the company chose to extend it further to cover all of March as well.

The site details how the offer gives passengers the chance to enjoy a reduced deposit of five per cent, while they can also boost their experience further by selecting one of a range of complimentary perks.

The options featured in the Pick Your Perk deal include up to $1,000 shipboard credit per stateroom, as well as one night in a hotel before or after a European voyage. There is also the opportunity to enjoy a premium beverage package, while free Wi-Fi is on the table as well.

Not the only one

The extension is an interesting move from Windstar, but it is not the only cruise line to take the step of offering perks to capture the attention of potential passengers.

For example, Norwegian Cruise Line is currently offering a deal where holidaymakers can enjoy 30 per cent off all cruises, as well as all of the company’s Free at Sea upgrade packages. As the site explains, the latter includes access to open bar services and the chance to experience speciality dining.

It could be argued that the use of these types of perks has brought cruise companies in line with many other industries at the moment. After all, a range of sectors have been known to use special introductory deals or similar offers to attract customers, with some streaming services for instance giving new customers free trial periods in the past.
