A Blast from the Past...

Re: A Blast from the Past... How you came to Cruise Addicts

Our first cruise was to Alaska in 2000 for our 25th wedding anniversary. I'm a person who likes to research before we go. Knowing nothing about cruising, and knowing no one who had "been there done that" I did a lot of "cruise info" searching on the internet. Cruise-Addicts was one of the many sites I was guided to; and, the only one I still frequent on a regular basis. I came on board about the time the RSMC (Red Stripe Mystery Cruise) was getting into full speed ahead. Took me awhile to figure out why EVERYONE was concerned as to whether Red Stripe was a girl or a guy, but it sure kept my interest as I followed the lead up to HER unveiling :)

I've probably done more lurking then posting through the years, but I'm always hanging around. We (I and dh) had the pleasure of being part of the MOSAIC group cruise for our 30th wedding anniversary, and enjoyed the opportunity of meeting so many of our on-line friends. HI!! everyone :)

As Suer said, " Cruise Addicts is probably stuck with me, too." :lol

I don't remember. It might have been cruise2. I remember getting sucked in with all the mystery about the red stripe mystery cruise. Speaking of Divetex....whatever happened to him? Anyone know?

My first post was May 1, 2001. I found C@ looking to see if anyone was cruising the same cruise we were.

After we booked our first cruise in February 2002, we went looking for all the cruise information we could find. DW (Bread) showed me the site. I lurked for awhile before being brave enough to post. One of my first posts was a joke. red stripe jumped all over it and a friendly war of jokes started between several male posters and red stripe. I actually thought I had unintentionally started a board war. :lol Fortunately I received two emails to let me know everything going on was just friendly banter and all in fun. After that I felt VERY welcome, and have been posting ever since.

It was 1999 & we had finally gotten a computer. I was researching our 1st cruise when I came upon this site & have been here ever since.

I fell into C@'s after also "Losing it" on cruise2. I think E told me about it but I'm not sure. Someone did gladly. I was here early but I don't remember exactly when...and for sure I have no idea what my first post was. But I bet it was cruise related ... :D

I have met many addicts here and there and we sure have formed some great friendships. (In person and online)

I found Cruise @ddicts while researching our first cruise in April of 2000. I can't remember if I posted at that time, but remember enjoying reading the posts and I picked up some valuable information in the process. When we booked our second cruise for April of 2002 I came back and recognized many of the same names. I remember thinking that was pretty cool and started to lurk more and more. For you old timers - that was back when SGrane was posting the daily groaner. Finally I got the nerve to post and hung around ALOT over the next few years. After MOS@IC I had nothing booked and my free time seemed to be less, so I found myself posting less often and lurking more often, but since the beginning have considered this to be my second =homesign. Lately I have been lurking more frequently and posting a little more often.

I really don't remember how or when I got here. We start cruising in 1998, and although I read reviews and boards back then I don't think I started posting until a couple of years later. I was too scared to actually talk to someone on the internet...because, as we all know...they were all perverts back then. :lol

I want to say that I started here in 2000 or 2001. But what is important is that I, and all of you, are still here, no matter when we joined!! =hug

In March of 2005, our third cruise was coming up in a few months. I was online looking for "cruise info", and this website popped up. I posted a couple of questions on the Carnival forum and got some very helpful responses. It took me a long while before I ever looked at any of the other forums. It feels wierd that I have only posted about 400 times, but I feel like family here.

I too, was a frequent lurker over at the old cruise2 board. I had gotten quite tired of all of the trolls over there and when I read a post relative to this board, I come over and many of my questions regarding my first HAL cruise (Oct '99) were addressed in a very friendly and informative way. Been hanging around ever since.

I think I was searching for cruising info for my family in 2000, as I used to cruise singly but hadn't had a child along......I started at Cruisemates, somehow linked over to here, straddling two for a while til I found a cozy spot to settle down.

.

Late 2002, after booking our first cruise. Surfed the net looking for info, and checked out most of the cruise sites. I found @ddicts to be the most friendly, so I lurked until we returned from the first cruise, then started posting when I had a bad case of PCD.

Like many others, I posted over at the old Cruise2 board, and was getting sick of the trolls. Herb let me know about the "new" board, and I've been here ever since!! :thumb

I was looking for info with Mark in September '03.. we had a look at the Princess forum, and Mark linked to Community.. I was a lurker for a month or so..just trying to put names, and faces, and lives in perspective..

my ONLY Princess mug got busted... and Mgram ( Pat,) was going ON a Princess cruise in November.. and she was so sweet to offer to buy me one on board to replace it ,and ship it from her home in Florida..=love.. she has my gratitude forever for that!!...:)..I also got brave enough to post ON Community.. and I moved in, as I never used a computer myself before then.. and I found so many wonderful folks.. Boston's /Golden's J and I were in posts right away.. so strange she was in my husband's hometown..:grin..

it has been a great friends making spot!!..:)..Thanks Reggae, and John...:daisy..Joanne

Re: A Blast from the Past... How you came to Cruise Addicts

We started our interest in the boards by lurking around reading and not posting. It all started in 1999 when we got back from our first Dam ship cruise. We began by watching the whole redstripe mystery cruise unfold. Then Jean got up the courage and posted something in the cruise tracker about our Panama cruise. It was then noted on the board that we should join the Panama group and we have been addicts ever since.
