Thanks for all of your info. Do you (or does anyone) know if the menu from the theme restaurants will be served in the main dining room? I love traditional dining, but would love to try the new stuff if I can get it there...

No, the menus from the "themed" dining rooms are not available in the International Dining Room.

It is my understanding that the themed menus are offered in the Traditional dining room. Not all menus every night but each menu will appear in turn so you will have the opportunity to try them all even if you have traditional dining.

Zia - did you use the spa services?

Did you attend the shows? Casino?

Any particular activities that you would recommend not missing?

If you have traditional dining, each night they will have two menus ,one for traditional and one each night of another restaurant. We were there for seven day,s

hucc, keep checking for new photos. The Gallery links on our Diamond Princess page produce photos as they are added to the Galleries. New photo albums have been added in the last two days (112 photos).

Ham, she means this board. If you click on to "Older messages" at the bottom of the first page, then look about two thirds of the way down, you will see Zia's reports on activities, cabin and entertainment. Hope this helps.

Would like to know a hotel to stay in that is near the port. Any suggestions. Planning on arriving the day before the ship leaves.

Nancy, I am looking for some good suggestions myself!! We are planning on being in the LA area for a few days pre cruise ourselves. I want to decide how I would like to spend my time in LA before I make a decision on hotels. Also, our itinerary says we will be leaving from Long Beach but I know, for now at least, the Diamond is departing out of San Pedro. Decisions, decisions :grin Rental car info would also be helpful!

By the way, I did start a roll call for our cruise if you would like to add your name to it!

ncara,

We stayed at the Sheraton San Pedro for our 3/20/04 Diamond Princess cruise. Nice hotel with a view of the port (although not the ship unless you get up really early to see her come in!). They also have a free shuttle to the cruise terminal. I booked through the Sheraton website for $89.

Since I have never left from the west coast, how far is the San Pedro port from the Long Beach one? I am planning on flying Jet Blue into Long Beach.

My understanding is that Diamond is using two ports - San Pedro and Long Beach, so depending on when you are going, you need to figure out what port and then what hotel. I'm on the Diamond Christmas Cruise that is going out of Long Beach. The ship will dock right next door to the Queen Mary. So, if it suits you, you could stay on the QM the night before the cruise (rates start at $89 inside) and walk over to the ship in the AM. I've stayed at the Westin Long Beach before and will be staying there in December. We looked at the San Pedro Sheraton but thought it was too far (6 miles?) from LB with the Westin so close. It's less than 2 miles from the ship. I don't think they offer a shuttle, but that's why God created taxis.
