asking girlfriend to get married

Wow Karry, that was something. And even though my life couldn't be more different than yours, I too feel the same about cruising. It is mine, my time to escape this insane world. I don't have a lot. Been single mom for so many years. My older boys are doing great, but have a very sick and "legal" drug addicted 30 year old daughter I am still supporting, along with a great 17 year old son. No help from dads at all. So, I too have found "my time" whether I go alone, like I am in April, or with family and friends. It is incredible to escape to this other world where there is others taking care of YOU! And you have to do nothing but whatever it is you feel like. Even when I finally took my teenage son on the cruise, I hardly ever saw him for a week, and didn't have to worry about him. I skipped going on a cruise at all last year do to circumstances, but no more. I am taking back what is mine! Happy cruising and maybe we will see each other sometime out on the water! :wave

Oh I was just joking I don't mind at all, I find it interesting actually. And TvLand happens to be one of my favorite channels by the way. My favorite joke in All in the Family was the christmas episode where Archie had the mechanical Santa Clause with the tongue that sticks out. I don't know why but I thought it was hilarious when he was like you don't look at this, its just disgusting! :)D

But anyway, any time you feel like rambling, by all means, be my guest, I'll listen... trust me! :thumb

Oh, Tessie, what a heartbreaker for you. I sincerely hope someday, somehow your DD finds her way. It is very hard being a mom....because no matter WHAT, you always love them. And I am sure your DD knows that. There are some things you can't give up on...and you never, just never really know when circumstances will turn and things will get better. Hoping this happens for you when you are least expecting it. I have a silly "saying": never, never, ever, ever EVER give up hope. I never did, never ever thought I would have what I have now, but it all worked out...and who knows...maybe for you too! Miracles happen every day.
Took our DS'es on their lst cruise in '98. They were pre-teen and I was worried they would be "bored" with Mom and Dad the whole week. They met up with kids before we even sailed out and we barely saw them! So good for your DS. And good for you taking your trips which you love. As Moms, especially in your circumstances, you put the "children" first. But every now and then you have to stop dead in our tracks, dig your feet in and say, I am doing something for ME now. Prayers to you and if you ever want to join us, check out my countdown clock and come on board with us! The more the merrier! We live 20 minutes from the terminal in Manhattan and
Bayonne. You are welcome to stay here pre cruise and trek to the ship with us! Prayers to you and happy cruising. Just get on the damn ship and as "hard" as it may be, leave everything behind you...let that lst gentle breeze at sailaway wash it all away for a little while :)

Jetblue, have you ever seen the episode with Sammy Davis Jr. on All in the Family?? A CLASSIC. I am a WASP and grew up in the 70's, but I have never ever been prejudiced. There is a story behind everyone, even nasty people. Smiles work wonders and if they don't smile back, that is okay. But, those "were the times" The subjects they covered on that show were just hand over an open mouth even THEN. Now you look back at them and ::eek:

Just thought I'd let you know how it worked out. I arranged with the cruise director to call my girlfriend up on stage prior to the evening show. He called her up by telling her she had won a surprise drawing for $100. She ran up to collect her money. The CD then asked who she was on the cruise with and she named off parents/child/brothers and finally boyfriend. The CD asked if boyfriend was very romantic and said if he would come up and do something romatic he would also get $100. They lowered the lights and we danced a short slow dance. The CD then asked the crowd of about 400 or so if they thought we could do something more romantic at which time I got down on my knee and asked her to marry me! (By the way - she said "Yes!"). The CD was so helpful and he even arranged to have it videoed for us (for a fee of course!) GREAT TIME on the Conquest.

Oh that's so sweet! I'm glad to hear the idea of calling her up on stage worked out really well! The only thing missing is the part where you say and we lived happily ever after.

Well I asked her - she said yes and the wedding is June 20,2009. The cruise director called her to the stage telling her she had won a drawing for $100. He then told the packed house he would also give me a $100 if I did something romantic - so I did. Needless to say we didn't get the money - but we have each other.
