Booking a cruise onboard

Hi everyone, we are going on our first ever Royal Caribbean cruise in a few months and we are already looking into booking another one for May. Someone once mentioned that you can book a future cruise while onboard a Royal Caribbean ship. So I am wondering exactly how does this work and what benefits does it give us?

If you book a cruise while onboard ,you will receive OBC(onboard credit for that next cruise you take)..

There are two ways of doing it:

Pick a specific ship, and date and pay the applicable deposit(i.e 7 nighter would be $250 each)..........this is refundable if you have to cancel(before final payment is due).....you can always change your mind about the ship and/or date later and keep the OBC for the future cruise, but MAKE SURE you dont really cancel the booking.......just keep that same booking number while switching over to a new ship or date.......

OR:

You can book a Next Cruise........this will cost you $100PP to book......you dont have to pick a specific cruise yet......it will also give you OBC for whatever cruise you pick(amount dependent on length of cruise--same as above)........this NEXT CRUISE does not have an expiration date to book by.....good forever.....the big thing to remember is it is NON REFUNDABLE(the $100PP)...........

I like to book a few NEXT CRUISES so I have them when I decide what cruise I want later on.I dont worry about the non refundable part cuz i know sooner or later,I'll be taking a cruise...........

It always helps me to see it in this form:

Cruise Length & Total Onboard Credit
3 to 5 nights = $50 OBC per cabin
6 to 8 nights = $100 OBC per cabin
9 or more nights = $200 OBC per cabin

Deposit - $100pp if sail date is unknown
$250-$450 if sail date is known or once you decide you pay the rest of the deposit.

Wow thanks for the info, that's a great deal especially because the cruise we are considering taking is a 9 night cruise and you don't just get handed a free $200 OBC that easily!

Also, if you're a C&A member, you can get a discount on the cruise fare portion. Check for C&A coupons for your particular sailing also. :)

Good point....since this is their first RCCL, they need to sign up onboard to join Crown and Anchor Society..........

After your first cruise, you will be a Gold member,jetblue....
no discounts on balconies or suites till after your 5th completed cruise credit(when you become Platinum)..........Diamond is after the 10th......Diamond Plus after 24th.......

So if I understand you correctly, we can sign up to be part of C&A while onboard and then if we book while onboard there will be an additional discount for a future cruise?

This is sounding better and better! Also, who gets the credit for the cruise? Can I switch it to my travel agent or is it just booked through RCCL?

No,you wont get an additional discount until you're platinum.........

You can transfer your booking over to your TA........tell the Loyalty Ambassador you have one(she/he will ask you anyway,no doubt)....
Thanks, PH8. Didn't realize this was their first (of many, hopefully!). :)
yea, says in their first post........

BTW JetBlue.......go check out www.rccl.com and look at the Crown and Anchor section so you can see more perks once you become a member(which BTW is free to join)....

One more thing.once you book, keep an eye on the prices......if RCCL lowers the price for your cruise, they will lower yours too(of course, some TAs may charge to make any changes,so check with yours)..

Also, if you book at Cat. JS or higher, you get 2 cruise credits toward the Crown & Anchor program, so you can reach Platinum sooner (Platinum = 5 credits; Diamond = 10). Then, you'll start getting the additional discounts & OBCs. :)

Did NOT realize that RCCL had added the option of the Next cruise like Princess does with the Ghost Booking. We will definitely take advantage of this when the next RCCL cruise comes around. :thumb

I have read that the future booking whether made on RCCL or Celebrity is interchangeable between the two. Does anyone know if this is the case for sure. In other words if I have a Celebrity Future Cruise booking can it be used for a RCCL Cruise or vise versa???

I'm pretty sure this can be done but not 100% positive. I remember seeing something about interchanging between RCI, Celebrity, and Azamara while I was onboard the Navigator. Something else to note is that Royal Caribbean has decreased the amount of Onboard Credit you get for future cruise bookings. It now stands as follows:

3 to 5 nights = $50 OBC per cabin
6 to 9 nights = $100 OBC per cabin
10 or more nights = $200 OBC per cabin

In this case we booked a 9 night cruise which used to be $200 OBC but of course RCI must have known we were coming and decreased it to $100.

I wouldn't dream of being on a RCCL ship without walking off with a next cruise booking! They're so easy, and I also believe they can be used with Celebrity. I never know when the mood will hit me to book a cruise, and I'd hate not to be on a ship at the time and get an on board discount

Are the family/friend OBC certificates still available if we book our next cruise while cruising? Planning a 2009 cruise with family and it would be nice to give them a OBC certificate to use.
Thanks for the info.

Yes, RCI and Celebrity bookings are interchangeable. We transferred a RCI booking to a cruise on Celebrity. The onboard credit will transfer also, and you will receive the Crown & Anchor/Captains Club benefits at the corresponding level. Cheers!

New, reading, and learning....

I understand from reading that you will receive the appropriate reciprocal benefits between RCI & Celebrity, but will you earn C&A Credits while cruising on Celebrity and vice cerse? (Similar to an airline alliance)

Thanks

Steve
