Yes we have had dinner with the captain 9 of our 11 cruises. We made friends with the captain on our second cruise, we try to cruise when he is on ship.

How does one get invited to dine with the Captain? I'm going solo in Nov., that would be cool:chef

Here's the things that I think helps:

Know the Captain or a senior officer.
Be on the VIP list.
Have a high cruise count [no guarantee at all].
Impress the Maitre d' or a head waiter when they are wandering around looking for candidates.
Be cute and female.
Sometimes the Concierge or LA will recommend you if they notice you're positive, professional and have good conversation skills.

I'm sure there are other ways....I'll think of them later.

Start with being an Elite Member, wealthy, know him from previous cruises, be FUN to dine with (Captains hate sitting with boring passengers)...learn everything you can about Greece, and of COURSE sleep with him. Greeks are great in bed!
:thumb
ps - the Captain chooses his OWN companions from a list provided. Heavily tipping the Maitre d' would only get you on the list. And sitting at that table isn't all it's cracked up to be...pretty boring actually. Now being invited to the Captain's Suite for a small party...THATS fun. Of course, since they've banned all officers from drinking, even while not on duty, that no longer happens either.

Why my better half and I were invited to dine with the Captain, I will never know! BUT, my wife politely turned down the invitation. When I inquired as to why?, she replied. " You know how easy I get seasick, and I was afraid would do so at the Captain's dinner. Oh well. I they ever have a dinner at the captain's table while in port. she will be happy to accept the next invitation.

[/quote]Well seeing as RCCL members are called Diamond, not Elite, that wont work..................or the leanring about Greece since most of them are from Norway........

And on RCCL, the captain does not choose from a list.............he has people scouting out for people...........like the LA or Maitre'D(of course, sometimes the captain does know when certain people will be onbaord and has them come)

I have found it not to be boring......I have enjoyed talking not only to the captain, but the others at the table......and the wine is free following...

Sounds like Celebrity dining with the captain is a whole lot different.....

Yes it is!!!
I would have thought since RCCL owns Celebrity, it would follow suit. I am Celebrity Elite, which I believe would "transfer" me to Diamond, if I chose to sail RCL again...yeah, miss that free wine thing. Again, before they banned drinking for officers, each formal night all the senior officers would "host" a different table and the wine was free. All went away when they told them no drinking...it totally changed the "vibe" on Celebrity. You don't even SEE the officers anymore...

Norwegian captain!? Say it isn't so!! Is nothing sacred anymore?
