I was just thinking this myself! If I talk about Deadliest Catch being one of my favorite shows and say that Sig and Edgar are my favorites, will I get the invite?!?!
I bet you would! No kidding!!! The "seamen" are a very proud and clannish breed.
I'm not a Sig fan myself....I love the Time Bandit Brothers...and that one deckhand who is clearly the most experienced and has a really even, pleasant personality...think he's with Sig... Not bad to look at either.
We've dined with the Captain on the Explorer of the Seas. We had one of the cheapest cabins, so being a high roller doesn't . do much good. It was our 10th cruise with RCI, that doesn't mean much because 2 girls who were on their first cruise ever were at the table. Then there was the suite couple. and the I forget why they were there coupla and the Employee of the week guy. Just a mix of pax with different backgrounds and different cruise experience. No rhyme or reason on who gets chosen
We dined with the Captain of Captain Cook's Endeavor several times on a 4 day cruise. Other nights we dined with an officer or the CD.
On Princess we have dined with various officers on formal nights.
We never had to stoop to the things listed to be invited.
Dining with the Captain is an honor, and we've been priviledged to have done it a couple of times. We don't drink,
so we don't care about the free wine. The Captains we've dined with have been charming, good conversationists
and have made our dining experience special.
I love charming, fun conversationists regardless of whether they are crew or passengers. A bad (boring) table can make for a loooong cruise. People with a great sense of humor, seasoned travelers, etc. are what I love. Not all Captains are charming or entertaining. I always ask for a table of 10 or more...I figure that way if 2 or 3 couples bore me to tears, I still have a chance SOMEONE is fun at the table.
While dining with the captain would be an honor, we will have a group of 15 who are so much fun, we can have a great time regardless! Count down 7 days to Alaska!
