Caribbean Princes BA or BE

I am sailing on the Caribbean Princess on June 5. I booked a balcony cabin cat BE with an inside stateroom cat J right across the hall for the children. I noticed on the personalizer that the BE has been "upgraded" to BA and is now on another deck. Therefore, the kids are no longer across the hall. My TA can't seem to get it moved back because they say Cat BE is no longer available. There are no available Cat J (or any others) available on the same deck as the newly "upgraded" BA.

Any suggestions? Is the upgrade from BE to BA significant enough for me to put up with the kids being on a different deck? Looks like the prices are the same. Descriptions sound identical.

Any advice would be appreciated.

it's one of those "fake upgrades";;;; meaning, it's the same room, just on a higher deck

how old are the kids? are they responsible enough to be left alone on a different deck?

you should bring up your concerns to your TA

I did bring up the concerns; Princess apparently said tough.

One of the kids is 9; she isn't going to like being a deck away.

This upgrade appears to be going the wrong way..... down. from Baja to Caribe.

if you did not authorize the upgrade, and you have a 9 year old in an adjacent, you do have a good argument

push your TA

The only thing different about the BE verses the BA is that the BA has a larger balcony. So it is an upgrade in the fact that it has more sq. ft. But I would be as concerned about having your children on another deck as you are.I would get in touch with your TA and insist it be fixed and be firm, they can do something about it if they try hard enough, even if it means they upgrade your childrens cabin to be closer to yours.Let us know how this turns out :wave

It sounds like your TA didn't have your bookings marked "no upgrade". Unless the bookings are coded that way Princess assumes that you are willing to take an upgrade. Have the TA call the cruiseline again and see if the folks that have now been assigned your original cabin would be willing to take the "upgrade". You said one of the children is 9....How old is the other???

edited to add....Balconies on Caribe deck appear to be larger than those on Baja deck if that makes a difference to you. Might make it easier for you to get your cabin switched again (perhaps the new residents would be more willing to switch). Another thought, your TA might have to get his/her Princess rep involved.

My son is 20, but I expect he will be out much later than my daughter, so I wanted to be able to put her in bed before he gets in. Not crazy about that, but thought it could be a possibility if I was just across the hall.

The TA called Princess and didn't get much interest. Apparently, the ship is pretty booked.

Well, I wouldn't leave a 9 year old in a cabin by herself! I think you need to get on to your TA again. It's their job to help you get what you want! You book with a TA so that you will have some help when things sometimes go awry. Keep bugging your TA!

Call Princess directly yourself 1-800-PRINCESS and ask to speak with a supervisor.

=yeah..I'd be burning the phone up with Princess DIRECT...bet that gets some action!!!after all the $$$ spent it should not be that YOu have to be in the room with her for the trip as she is a "minor" and cannot be left without close proximity to you by law!!!...( as in abandonement"by their actions..).Hang tough..and good luck..:)..Joanne

Actually, anyone under the age of 18 years in a cabin must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 21! I expect that lej56 has done what many folks do and has told Princess that there will be one adult over 21 in the cabin with the expectation that they would just switch once onboard. (I don't know this to be fact but I am guessing it is so). People do this all the time. Unfortunately lej56 has been caught out :( !

It does sound like they booked with a TA, and if that is the case then Princess probably will insist that all dealings on this booking be handled by the TA. lej56 needs to be proactive and insist that the TA help them out here!! I would be bugging my TA.

You are correct, Beryl. We have four people going on the cruise that are under 21, so we had to match them with adults and hope to change things around later.

I've been bugging the TA and supposedly Princess is looking at the inventory to see if they can move us back to our old cabin across the hall.

... and Beryl is also correct that Princess wants you to deal with your TA if they made the reservations for you.

Yup, all cruise lines want you to deal with your TA if you didn't book through the cruise line itself. That's why I really think your TA should be working hard to fix things for you.

Excuse me but I would like to point out that the TA screwed this was up, not Princess, she obvisously didn't have the two bookings "linked" and she should have the booking marked as " no upgrade unless approved".
And what kind of travel agent says that when she called to fix this mess, Princess " didn't show much interest" what a weak and silly thing to say. She should be demanding some help here and going over peoples heads here! There IS NO WAY A LONE 9 YEAR old SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE!!!! I would have my daughter sleep in my cabin before I would let her be alone on another deck. Would you do that at a hotel!??

This kind of stuff makes my skin crawl, don't you dare let them endanger your child. I say screammm your head off,and get results, or have your daughter with you!

And yes a ba on the Caribe deck is a nicer cabin sicne the balcony is bigger.

Calm down. I'm not endangering anyone. She will be sleeping in our room at night, or in a room with another adult. I would just like a place nearby where she could get dressed, shower, nap, whatever.

The rooms were supposedly "linked" supposedly marked "no upgrade," but it still happened.
