I was able to cut and past. Those are some wild pictures. I leave this Sunday on my first cruise on the Victory. I hope that the weather is good. I would hate to experience something like that on my first cruise.

Very scary pictures! I would hate to have been on this ship during all of that! Was this an actual cruise going on at the time of Katrina or was the ship cleared of passengers at the time?

I have to ask the same question as serene56.....where was the person who took these photos??
Were they on a ship too or a plane or helicopter?
How were they able to get such close pictures on both sides of the ship and the front?

Hopefully she was empty of passengers....that would be one wild ride.

I am thinking the photography was done by air, helicopter, maybe, using a telephoto lens. Anybody really knows, please post.

I was just wondering why Carnival Waited so long to get the ship out of the way of the Storm. Seems dangerous to put the Ship & Crew through that when they knew it was coming.

not sure why you are questioning carnival , when you should ask the question, What was the CAPTAIN thinking. it is up to the Captain to steer away from trouble and protect the passengers, crew and the ship.

I read somewhere that these pictures were taken while the ship was heading back to New Orleans to house evacuees.

I would question the photos... the only possible way I can think they MIGHT have been taken was by helicopter (given the multiple angles), and what kind of helicopter is going to be flying in this except maybe Coast Guard for an emergency?

If we know for sure it was the Ecstasy, it shouldn't be too difficult to track down her itinerary and find out where she might have been. If inteed there WERE any passengers onboard, I would think there would be at least a FEW posts on this board to that effect-- it would have been a heck of a ride!!!

I can say that my SO can take a picture of a ship and super impose it into the waters. I am wondering if this is what happened with these photos.

I know stuff like that can be made up, but why would someone take the time to make 30 or so FAKE photos? I could see if it were just one picture but there are alot of them? I don't know, but it looks real to me.

those photos put a lot of people in a panic and lots of people cancelled the cruise.
30 photos does not take a long time to make up.
I did show them to my SO who said IF they are fakes-- someone did a good job.

cpprinttom,

since it was you who started this thread, could you please tell us where or who you got the photos from? It could put an end to the debate on are they real or fakes. I would also like to know where and how the photos were taken if they are not fakes, they are amazing. I would apperitate any light you may or your fiernd could shed on this.

People actually cancelled their cruise based on seeing these pictures?! Wow, can I have their tickets then???

Seriously, the more I think about these photos, and the couple times I've gone back to look at them again, they seem less and less realistic... The ship is being tossed about like a child's toy, listing this way and that, and quite frankly, the seas don't even look THAT rough. And cruise ships are HUGE, remember? It would take a lot of sea to be throwing a ship that size around like the pictures suggest.

I also did a Google search for any more potential info regarding this incident and turned up absolutely NOTHING. If there was anyone on the ship, don't you think they'd have been interviewed or written about their experience somewhere?

Remember when the cruise ship (I forget the line) got nailed with the freak wave a few months ago? That was ALL over the news... as impressive as these photos are, I find it hard to believe that there's not an accompanying story.

Ditto what randk said-- cpprinttom, we'd like more info on where you got these pictures!
