I appreciate both of your responses, but I'm still not debating whether they are real or fake. My curiousity was and still is whether a ship that big could be tossed about by a category 5 hurricane. I hope that this mystery is solved for both of you at some point...

Lizardstew, Yes a ship that large and larger can be tossed around like it was a small toy. Wind and water are the biggest destroyers. A ship as large or larger than a US battleship will be tossed around and destroyed by a cat 3 4 or a 5. that is why they get the ships out of the ports and try to get them as far away from the storms that they can. and I do to hope that the mystry of the photos is solved but if not what the heck it is fun trying to track down the source.

Alright...so enough with the fighting... These pictures are real. From a very reliable source with Carnival, here is the email about them....

"We wondered how long it would take for those pictures to surface.

Those are actually pictures of the Ecstasy in Rita, taken from the crew of the Sensation.

Both ships were docked in New Orleans and housing evacuees and relief workers.

In any storm it is safer for the ships to be at sea than at port, so everyone was offloaded and the two ships were sent out to ride out the storm.

Both ships were empty except for essential staff and the Sensation was tailing the Ecstasy. "

dmbfan20042004,

Nobody fighting here. Could you please give more indentiy of Tod? Who or what postion is he with Carnival? I would like to know how they where able to get all the differnt angles and keep that camera steady with no sign of shake or viberation. I think I will contact Carnival myself. I really do not belive Tod is a good source. Sorry it is only my opioion, no matter how little or wrong it is still mine. Sorry

Sorry can't reveil my source. Carnival will give you a blanket statement by the way. It was posted on the news as well about the ships being repositioned for the storm.

Believe what you want. I saw the arguing/fighting/discussion here and decided to get word. I cannot give you his name or title but like I said trust me or not it is the truth......

Dont be too naive about what those pictures are of. Ever been on a cruise in the middle of a storm? I have and let me tell you it felt like those pictures look.

Like I said nobody is fighting here, it has been a very nice and educational discussion with lots of thoughts and opioions. I have been on a few ships that have been tossed around and found it hard to stand steady let alone take pictures such as those posted. If they where taken from another ship it is a very steady hand and equipment used. Also the differnt angles shows the ship behind, side and infront. That must have been one heck of a ride to get all those angles with no shake or blurr. I am sure Carnival will give a blanket response but than again maybe not. they have taken alot of heat lately and will be taken more I am sure. Not sure what I should not be naive about. So trust me when I say I am not naive, I check things out pretty good and than double check before I either 1) pass it on as being the truth, 2) disclaim it publicly as being false 3) dislike rumors that do not stand up to the first couple of questions but are passed around as the gospel without anyone checking them out before passing it around. 4) being told trust me it is the truth but I can not share my sources with you. So I will have to check it out myself in the next day or two with Carnival and see what they say. thanks for your input and i will post my findings with names and phone numbers if possible for others to verify. by the way i did see a story about the ships riding out the strom but they had no photos or other info in the story. Again these photos are worth a lot to whoever shot them and the equipment they used to stop the shake is worth millions.

i will try to find out how they are so steady too... i will ask....

the only reason why i cant post my source is because he asked me not too.... i shared with him the message board and he gave me that answer...im not trying to hide anything but when you have a friend who works for a company as big as that in a higher up position i have to abide by what he asks....

please do post what you find... i was just trying to be helpful.

no problem, no offense taken nor expressed. I do enjoy a good mystry and finding the answer. though sometimes the answer is not as great as the mystry led us to belive.

Sheesh, what would be so wrong about Carnival admitting these pictures are real?! I can appreciate "Tod's" concerns re:speaking on behalf of his company without permission, but still... It's not like they're photos of secret spy missions or something, you know?

Sometimes when a ship is anchored, it turns. In rough seas, I imagine it would turn even more...maybe that's how all of the angles were taken. Just a thought. =shrug

I doubt they'd "anchor" in that type of weather. Better to "go with the flow" I should think...

Randk - Rather than disputing this anymore, how about if we just decide that the pictures are real, and you can decide that they are fake. If we choose to pass them on, that's fine. You don't need to pass them on and then you wont be accused of passing something on that could be fake. K?

He hasn't had the surgery yet, so things are just getting worse. I never thought I would look forward to someone getting surgery, but I guess that day has come. I'll update once we actually know something. We are still praying that the tumor isn't cancerous, but we wont find out until next week probably.

Hi, we were on Carnival Fantasy 3 years ago, and on our last day we were coming back from the Bahamas we hit a Tropical Storm. That day it was a little rough. Just enough to throw your equilibrium off so you couldn't walk too straight. The Captain came over the speaker to tell us there was a severe tropical storm and that he was going to try his best to avoid it as possible by going farther out into the ocean. As the day went on it got a little worse.

Later that night right after dinner (early dinner), we headed down to change clothes so we could go see the Las Vegas type show, and the big waves hit all of a sudden. It was exactly what these pictures look like. They sealed off the decks because the waves were coming over the lido deck. It was so bad everyone was putting on their life jackets, and puking all over the ship. If you had to walk you almost had to crawl. It was so bad the alarms went off. We were so sick When the alarms went off we were scared that if we had to go to our muster stations, we didn't think we'd make it. The ship was creaking and cracking as if it were going to break into. I have never been so scared in my life.

So, all that said, I have no doubt what-so-ever about these pictures.
