Does Celebrity enforce the "one bottle of wine per cabin" rule?

We've always taken 10 day or longer cruises, and usually take a case of wine with us. Sure, a few bottles stay in the cabin, but most of them make their way to the dining room.

I know Celebrity has the new wine rule, but do they enforce it? Would a box of wine be considered ONE BOTTLE???

Actually, and I swear this is true, when we booked this cruise in April 07, Celebrity had a ONE BOTTLE PER STATEROOM rule. I just looked and it's been changed to two, which is better. But gees, when we went to Alaska in o5, we were able to carry on a case of wine. It was nice to share at our table. Guess we won't be doing that!

The first change they made last year was to NO wine at all. They then went to two bottles. We also took cases of local BC wine to share when we sailed from Vancouver previously.... but no more.

Unless of course we go on another duck cruise on that other line :)

I would be mortified to carry a case of wine onto the ship...

If you can't afford to buy wine at a restaurant (which is what you're doing), then you shouldn't "eat out'. Sorry, but I'm a bit of a snob that way.
I can see if you have a special affinity to a particular label they do not carry...but to BYOB on a cruise...let's just say you wouldn't be traveling with ME!
(td)
I always share my champagne with the table...every night. And yes, I buy it on board, like custom would dictate.

Conniemc:

Can we sit at your table on your next cruise? I have never brought wine on board either. Of course I am more of a beer drinker anyway.

Hi Conniemc, I'd have to differ with your opinion. Many long time cruisers find it customary to bring aboard wine/champagne. This has been written about and a customary (corkage fee) has been charged if served in the dining rooms, etc. This may not be the way you choose to do things but, I guess that why we are all different in our own way. Granted a box of wine is something new but, I think the thought is the same (wine from home).

Some cruisers love to bring stuff from home (soda, water, wine, cd's, etc). Some guests may choose to bring very little. So I personally can see both points of view. We just need to make sure we all respect each others differences. Its what makes the world go around and stay interesting.

Absolutely John! I have parents who stay every year at the Acapulco Hyatt and drive to Walmart to buy their beer. I personally am embarrassed by it....but to each their own!

And please let me be clear about my snobbishness...bringing a bottle or two is one thing..but A CASE??? (laugh)....

Hey, live it up! However you choose!

I absolutely agree, it is absurd to carry on a whole case of wine!!!

I just bring two 5 liter wine taps, much easier to carry........

besides you only have to pay one spout charge rather than several
corkage charges if you want to take it to the dining room.

And as can be seen from the picture above that BsB posted, I have no problem having it served in the dining room.........

So when you carry on your 2 bottles, I assume they are in your checked luggage due to the 3 oz rule. Has anybody every opened their luggage to broken bottles? How do you pack your wine to make sure it doesn't break?

The cruise lines don't have a "3 oz. rule" and we live not far from the pier, so that's an easy one for us. I don't think I would fly with alcohol. I would buy it in the destination city. BUT, if you want to put wine or alcohol in your checked luggage for the ship, I would wrap it in bubble warp and put that in a large baggie. Not that I've ever done that before! :p

Red turned me on to these: http://www.rumrunnerflasks.com/ I did my research, found lots of good things people have said about them, and ordered them. In just a few minutes, I had email confirmation that they had shipped, and I received them two days later. I'll be using them on our cruise, that's for sure!

It might not be wine in those rum runners! Actually, one of the flasks will be for OJ, and I know I would like to have some water in the cabin, since they say I can't bring my own bottled water or OJ on board any more. I can't find mention on their website, but that's what they told me!

...An interesting aside.... In years past...on the grand ships....the private valets/butlers...would ALWAYS...bring many personal effects of their employers...including linens, china, objects d' art... and cases of their preferred vintages/cognacs/sherry etc. It was customary and to be expected.....
