You are the one that's bashing first. Your accusation about my above posting are incensing the whole matters. Your remark "take it with a pinch of salt of kind" is most insulting and has implication that I lied. Your type of message is hardly useful except to show ignorance and disrespectful to the author. If you have nothing constructive to say please don't submit any messages or at least not one that implied sketicism and sarcasm. Please go,disappear or find other areas to make trouble with or go get a life! Just leave me alone.

"The ship doc is best to avoid unless you are dying" was a passed cruise passenger remark. Come to think about it. It is so true but you never know when you needed one. After this experience I will not risk not having a travel insurance in future cruises. Good luck to your future cruise esp if you do not have an insurance.

I am going on the Constellation and don' plan on getting sick, but I possibly could.
Did I understand in the discussion above that a second degree sun burn occurred?
What percent body surface? Why would you go to the Doctor for this? Why would you need dressings?
Did blisters have to be opened. Why would you need blood toxicity test? What is a blood toxicity test?
It seems the only treatment would be something for pain. Why would one let themselves get burned with all the warnings that are issured?
Antibiotics are not usually used in an acute sunburn.
Was this person an immune comprised person?
What was the name of the Doctor? I'll have to check him out.

The second degree burnt was actually an accident. My cabin mate was playing cards in the upper deck air conditioned restaurant where the sun beam in through the glass windows. His legs was exposed since he was wearing shorts. Both lower part of the legs developed bisters after 3 days. We went to see the Doc just incase but the Doc. was telling us the worst scenerio and that got us worrid. The Dr's name I think was Dr. Calveral or Calverole or something like that. She's in her 30s or early 40s heavy set and I think Hispanic/Columbian. She viewed the blisters and said it looks bad and was infected so she prescribed the oral antibiotics, pain killers, the anti biotic injections and blood test for sugar, blood presssure and blood test to check if the infection had affected the blood as well.

What do we know but we have to follow through as she make us very worrid with her scare tactics dianostic talk. We were worrid she will not treat him if we refused all the treatments she insisted as necessary. She also advices to have the blisters bandaged and changed twice a day. After the 3rd day I wanted to change the dressing myself and the Dr. said no, even though I said I can do it with the help of a nurse friend travelling with us. I know its an excuse to hijack our wallet but we were captive audience. What can I say.

This post is not intended to embarass/discourage anyone. Seriously, I hate to escalate this "discussion" to a higher level of discomfort, but I could not resist posting what I have to say to clarify a few things. For your information, I am a physician licenced to practice in the U. S. I have never practiced medicine on a cruise ship or with any other vacation operators, and do not have any interest in doing so at this time. For that matter, I have never been to a cruise ship clinic in my life, even though I would be very interested in knowing how it functions.

So...here is what I have to offer:

Fact #1: NO DOCTOR can write a prescription for ANYTHING if the patient has never been evaluated by the doctor. This is sort of my pet peeve, since I have been asked more than a few times to "call in a prescription for Mr. --- who forgot to bring his medication from his home." In most states, writing a prescription for anything for a non-patient (person who is not YOUR patient) is against the law.

Fact#2: As someone said, providing any medical care (writing prescriptions, or even measuring blood pressure) to a person constitutes "medical care" under the law in the U. S., and if the receiver of the medical care has any adverse consequence secondary to it, the physician could be responsible.

Fact#3: You can get sunburn through a window. It happens a lot while driving....not all windows, even those on cars, block much UV rays. If you want to protect your skin, avoid the sun...even indoors.

Fact#4: Since medical care overseas (especially on the cruise ship) is rarely covered the same way (if at all) by your regular medical insurance, I think it's very important to find other methods of coverage when you on a cruise. I certainly do every time by checking with my medical insurer as well as to take an extra trip insurance.

Greed is the caused!

Thanks for your reply but I respectlfully diagree with these:

Fact #1: NO DOCTOR can write a prescription for ANYTHING if the patient has never been evaluated by the doctor. This is sort of my pet peeve, since I have been asked more than a few times to "call in a prescription for Mr. --- who forgot to bring his medication from his home." The patient pocesses a valid prescription written by her Dr. in the States. All she need was to fill in the presribed drug. I don't see why the Cruise Clinic who has the drug cannot sell it to her. Surely the Dr. who made that prescription is responsible and not the ship Dr.

Fact#2: As someone said, providing any medical care (writing prescriptions, or even measuring blood pressure) to a person constitutes "medical care" under the law in the U. S., and if the receiver of the medical care has any adverse consequence secondary to it, the physician could be responsible.

Do you think anyone will die from just taking a high blood pressure reading and the Dr. will get sued? Give me a break It's the greediness of the Medical Practice in America that make me sick. What adverse consequence can result from taking a blood pressure reading.Sounds like you're the type who will always nickel and dime the patient to death with the law as an excuse to get richer. Greed is the truth here. Where are human compassions these days?

Seems to me that one thing happened to ruin your whole cruise. That ONE thing was basically your friend getting burned by the sun, something which Celebrity Cruise Line has NO control over. YES, shipboard medical treatment is very expensive, but would you rather receive treatment in some third-world country with no medical standards? Overbilling (or mis-billing) is very common practice in ALL medical fields, not just on ships. That is one reason our insurance premiums are so high. This is one very good example of why we should all choose the very inexpensive cruise insurance which would have most likely covered any expenses your insurance company did not.

As for location of the room, who picked out the inside cabin location? Did you pick it out, your TA, or did you opt for the "run of the ship" special and take that risk? If your friend has this hearty condition which would be worsened by electronic equipment, it seems only logical to better investigate cabin location before booking.

Everyone has a bad story or two to tell about various cruises. I personally think that the premier industry awards (such as Conde Nast) say it best when they rank Celebrity ships as the best in their category. If you had a sour experience, perhaps you should return to anothy line - or - simply do your homework better beofre choosing a cabin.

Cabin placement is not restricted, the cruise lines, believe it or not, will allow YOU to choose where you wish to be. In the future, choose wisely & enjoy cruising!

Everyone is entitle to his or her opinion and so let it rest! If you like Celebrity go wth it and enjoy just make sure you have an insurance. I think Celebrity should have more control over those Medical Clinic contract they awarded to. Gorging customers is distasteful even if the insurance covers it. In the end you are the one who pay for all these over billings.

Good luck to you.

Is it just me or does it seem this person has nothing better to do than to gripe and complain on what is a very happy, upbeat, & lifting website? Its great that people have their own opinions and each has his/her right to voice such opinion but, come on, LET IT GO! I mean, you have a response for EVERYONE! Just LET IT GO! Good day.
